JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

iFisch

I've replaced the stop pumps with MaxiJet 1200's and I've got one Vortech MP-10 (set to Reef Crest Mode w/ max power).

Ive tried a Montipora - it 'was' green and brown when I got it.... in less than 2 weeks it turned white but still had polyps extened - now they dont extend and the piece has started to accumulate red alge

You already tried another piece?

Oh no.... I was just saying that I've tried the montipora this past round.

No... I'm waiting until the majority of tank is covered in coraline before attempting more SPS.

Thanks

It's more or less time. And do you have any rocks completely covered in coraline?

yes... time... patience...

No rocks totally covered, a couple small (tumb nail size) specs on back wall. I bought a 2# rock this weekend that was covered in coraline - figured that would help seed the process.

I bought all my LR covered, deeply in coraline. I was seeing it on the walls within 60 days. Now, it's everywhere. That return nozzle that was black, is now pink and purple. I like it, but it's starting to grow on the glass, which can be a little difficult to remove. The backwall is fine. Viewing angles is not.

I just bought myself a JBJ 28g. Nano Cube two days ago and already found an owners club..... Sweet! I plan on lighting the back and growing cheato in the whole back of it and keep the media box in for chemical filtration medias. I put in a very fine sand bed that is about two inches deep. I always wanted that look that is gets from the water moving it around. almost like sand dunes... Anyway thats all at this point its only two days old. I will get some pics started on its birth soon.

Glad to be here,

Welcome, and good luck.

I'm glad I found this thread. My GF and I will be buying our first house soon and I'm already starting to plan a tank. I'm really leaning towards the JBJ 28HQI. I had a 20H with 150HQI (Sunpod) when I was in college and now I want to get back into the hobby.

Here is a FTS . . . . i miss it :sad2:

Couple of questions:

-If I plan on getting this system, what extra things will i need?

-Is a chiller NEEDED

-Does the skimmer work at all or does it need to be replaced?

-How much evaporation do you have daily?

-If you could go back, would you get the same system again?

Welcome. Picture doesn't work.

1. What else do you mean, "extra things"? Your question is pretty vague. Do you know about salt, test kits, etc.?

2. The stock JBJ skimmer? I hear terrible things about it.

3. Depends on temp in the tank. I use about 1/10th a gallon a day.

4. No. I'd go rimless, and setup similarly to the Elos Mini.

1. I mean other things like hardware - skimmer (since it doesn't work for anything)

2. What route are most people going with to fix this skimmer issue?

3. Do most people have a chiller or is it just pre-caution?

Very nice.

1. Hardware - upgraded pumps, and upgraded powerheads. Most common pumps are the MJ1200, I'd go with the Ehiem, if you have the money.

Power heads, range from Koralia's to Vortech's.

2. Buy a skimmer, mainly the Tunze 9002, and upgraded skimmer cup, to fit in the back.

3. Some people use a chiller, yes.

Cool. The GF is a little concerned about getting a chiller. I know this hobby isn't for the cheap, but it seem kinda funny to spend ~$500-$700 for a tank that needs a separate chiller that is ~$300. We are in the process of deciding if we want to go with an AIO or a DIY w/ sump...

what am I using

what am I using

skimmer eshops 75hb
chiller 1/13hp aquaeuro usa or jbj nano artica back up for the tank incase of a defective chiller.
also using the nano glo for a refguium with chato
sps and lps primary

The skimmer can work, but it's a pain to use. If you're dead set on using it, it's fine.

Also, you don't need a chiller. I run two PC fans on a temperature controller and an auto top-off system. My temp rarely goes above 80 in the summer, and never above 78.5 now that the weather has cooled off. Just remember that an auto top-off is required if you're using fans to cool.

I use the Octopus 100F HOB skimmer. It is wonderful, and it fits nicely on the back on the nano cube.
