JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

Hey guys, I am about to order my tank and had a quick question. How much space is there from the water surface to the lid surface as I am wondering if there would be enough space to add some led lights without them touching the water?

There isnt much space. If you work out a way to fix them there will be just an inch, perhaps slightly more between the LED and water.

My original idea was to somehow fit them whilst retaining the stock canopy. But aside from fitting them in such a small gap, you have to factor in heatsinks and a fan to cool the LEDs.

So, I have about 12 Royal Blue LEDs on order from RapidLED. I will probably end up using only 8-10 on one driver. I am going to build a completley new canopy. I want to retain the halide as I've customised that to run off an ectronic ballast (see my post many pages back) and because I dont completely trust LED's for overall coral growth.

I should recieve my LED's sometime this week from USA. I wont be able to start the new project until many weeks later.

I am actually speaking of the ones you purchase as moon lights. I figure you could put about 4 - 6 of them and use them as a light actinic. Atleast to simulate a light sunrise/ sunset effect

Does any have a DIY Led light for the JBJ 28G? or is it better just buy from nanotuners?

I seen the LED in action from my local LFS they told me it has just as much light as MH without the heat and it looked like it, in there tank they had clams and sps in there and thriving so Im sure they good enough.

Anyone got a picture of their back compartment with the tunze 9002 fitted in? Is it a tight fit? I ordered the custom made "SMALL TUNZE CUP, SKINNY BODY SIZE" from inTANK so I am hoping that by using this cup with the tunze 9002 I will be able to open my hood without removing the cup. Anyone using the custom made cup from inTank on their 9002?

does anyone use an overflow box like from sapphire or cpr with their 28g? and if so is their any pics. been wanting to put a sump in

Well its not so much that i need the space. But i would like to have a sump mainly so i can run all the stuff through the sump instead of it all being crammed in the back. ato, skimmer, chiller etc.

Hi. I'm waiting for mine to be shipped. The kit was back ordered when I placed my order 2 wks ago. I'll let you know how it is. According to Nano-tuners, the LED lighting of their kits surpases the stock MH lighting.

Odd question, and it may have already been asked, but what does everyone have in the filter media basket (the middle chamber on the back) and does anyone use chaeto or live rock rubble in there? I think my sponge in the basket is causing hair algae to bloom...again. Any ideas?

~Mike~

I would take the basket out. I use the middle for my skimmer. Are you using RO/DI water? Yes the sponge can be the problem, I even took out the black sponges off of my JBJ

I'm sure I'm doing it all wrong but my tank has been pretty stable for me and my inhabitants seem happy. In the top of that basket I alternate between a media bag of carbon and the black sponge every two weeks when I do a w/c. In the second chamber I have filter floss and Purigen and in the bottom chamber I have filter floss and Chemipure Elite.

in the media basket I have a large sponge, then a carbon bag, then a smaller sponge... should I should anything?

should i do anything** and exactly what does chaeto do... i understands it uses up the nutrients, so would that help reduce hair algae?? And no, I do not have an RO/DI system yet

mike1420 without a RO/DI thats most likely your problem why you have hair algae. Yes chaeto will help but a RO/DI will help more at this point.

Here is my 28 CF quad. I have a MP10 and Tunze 9002 on the way. Once I can see how the Vortech does I will add more rock and aquascape again.
