JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

Since the skimmer is such a tight fit and the fuge area is small to say the least, option 2 would be to make a refugium from a 10 gallon tank which would fit in the stock cabinet. I would install the Tunze 9002 skimmer in there and would make for a decent size fuge while adding about 6 gallons to the entire system. ATO would also be installed down below along with probes. Could also add a filter sock on the intake to help polish the water. Would still use the media basket with sponge and carbon. Opinions??

sounds like a good idea. will you be using the stand it comes with or a custom stand? im assuming hob overflow?

also what will you be running on your controller?:)

Will use the cabinet that comes with it, drill the tank for both intake and out ports and a Reefkeeper Lite with temp and ph probe.

I spoke (email) with Saphire they have redesigned the impeller/wheel to prevent it from stalling and are in production now, should be next week before ready - mean time, Ive managed to super glue the old impeller (which was spinning freely from the magnet) and skimmer seems to be working (butnot 100%).

hppd432 - Ditto on the Maxi 1200 for chiller. I've actually got my 1200 pulling water into chiller, then phosban reactor, then refugium and has plenty of flow (plus I saved a lot of space by not needing so many pumps).

Do you have pics of this? I just ordered my chiller today. I'm getting excited about setting the tank up again. Now I'm after a MP10 and either the EuroReef or Deltec Skimmer.

I recently replaced the stock pumps with a MJ 1200 and a MJ 900 and ever since have had a major problem with micro bubbles. I keep the water level really high but every now and then the tank clouds out with a large burst of bubbles which constantly makes the tank look a bit cloudy. Anyone else experience this? Really driving me nuts.

+1 => I run dual MJ1200's one of them burps periodically

Midnight you can get a cheap bit for $5 to drill it for a half inch bulkhead from harborfreight.com I drilled mine with it and it worked great. Go back a few pages and check it out.:strooper:

I am wondering if anyone is still using the stock protein skimmer. I have a chip in the top of mine about 1/2 deep into the tube. I am wondering if i can just cut off the tube and put the skimmer basket back on and keep using it? It works well and I do not want to have to buy another one since it is hard to find one that will fit in the compartments properly.

Marsha, I'm using the stock skimmer. Its working fine for me. Pulls out a dark coloured skimmate. Depending on how short your skimmer becomes after you cut it, it may or may nor perform effectively. Can you not glue a piece of pastic over the dent? I would heat up suitable piece of pastic so its bendy, then simply glue it on while it takes the shapes of the skimmer tube. Shouldnt affect performance at all. Or you can just cut it and see how it performs. If its only 1/2 inch of the tube cut off then that should not affect the skimmer at all.

New JBJ 28g LED changing return pumps...

New JBJ 28g LED changing return pumps...

I just received my tank and was examining the back area and wondered how to easily change out the return pumps. I removed the elbow at the top but the chamber is so narrow and the stock pumps are suctioned down. I figure there may be a good tip other than just pull on the tube...Also, where should the pump prefilter sponges ride in the pump chambers, even with the chamber wall, slightly above or below. Thanks for any guidance and I am really looking forward to starting a reef tank again after a 7 year hiatus.

Sahin, I tried to put another piece of plastic in and it keeps leaking and therefore not getting a proper skim. I am going to try cutting the tubing. If that does not work, i will be getting a replacement skimmer out of the box and putting it on. I have a Lee's small protein skimmer in the box I bought as a back up because it would fit in the middle chamber wo modification.

Marsha, if you can't get it working, Nanotuners has the stock replacement skimmer here. I like the stock skimmer myself too, it works great for me, collects a nice dark skimmate, probably half the collection cup in 2 weeks.

I just got my Current 1/10 hp chiller today and need some ideas on how to plumb it. I want to add a phosoban reactor and make it a "chain" if this is possible. Any pictures or ideas would be appreciated. I think ballonpilot did this some how. Oh, and should I buy the JBJ chiller installation kit? I'm not sure if it's a universal kit or not.

Quick question for you guys would the 28g cf need a chiller for the hot California
summer months, the reason i ask my 10 gal fresh would jump up to the high 90's and i would like to avoid that problem. One more thing can you pick different colors for the lights and can they be upgraded to t5's? Do any of you guys wish you would have bought a different tank. as you can tell i cant make up my mind.
Thanks for the help.

Has anyone tried the Deltec MCE300 or 600? I was thinking of buying one of these skimmers for my nano.

Okay... I put the sapphire skimmer in the middle chamber, and my tank almost overflowed. What did I do wrong?
