The pics were took with my phone so the quality is not so great.

Just to let you guys know, I purchased the Warner Marine H1 HOB skimmer for my nanocube. It fits perfectly, has no microbubbles, and is more than enough for the tank. It is FANTASTIC.

mr9iron the coral you need an ID for is a turbinaria and the GSP notbeing open might be a good thing. If it does open, you'll know why I said that in a few months, lol.

I really like mine as well. It skims fairly well for having not much in my tank. I expect this one will be a great performer in the long run.

I do know what you mean, but they are a must on Mrs9iron's list. :spin2: I ordered my Radium from PA today and can't wait until it gets here.

Hey everyone... just thought I'd post a bit of an update.

I've had my LED cube up (cycling, mostly) for a month and change. It now has MJ1200 return pumps running off the JBJ wavemaker, stock nozzles removed and extended locklines so I can direct the flow. I added a Koralia 1 for more flow. A Remora skimmer positioned in the center so the spillway drains into the media basket. The skimmer pump is above the left return pump and I used a 90 degree fitting on the skimmer to avoid kinks. I also have the JBJ LED refugium light shining on a wad of chaeto in the media rack. Oh, and about 35lbs of LR, maybe 40lbs of sand.

My weekend plans include rigging an AquaHub ATO and doing a bit more with lockline to direct the flows more where I want them.

Only real setback has been the blue (dawn/dusk) LEDs going out, which JBJ took care of with a new set of LEDs with better heat sinks.

The corals I've added so far seem quite happy -- the xenia sprouted a bunch of tiny new limbs, seems to have grown a bit, and is happily pumping away. The (probable) capnella fully expanded after a couple days and expanded its hold on the rubble I attached it to. I've added a few other things and it all seems to be at least trending correctly, with one exception...

I added a small yellow watchman goby which promptly switched to concealment/stress colors and just hangs out on the sand instead of hiding in the rockwork. It knows places to hide, but just doesn't hide. The coloration implies stress but it eats frozen and flake foods and seems to be healthy in most ways. It spends its days alternating between sitting on the sand (occasionally chomping down a mouthful and sifting it out its gills) and free swimming. It almost totally ignores the rockwork and caves. I guess I'll have to wait and see but I've never had an animal react so poorly to a new habitat. Sigh.

Part of me thinks the moon lights are too bright. The only time the YWG has hidden in the rockwork is when I turned of all the lights initially. Not sure what to do about that.

My nano-glo came from the nearest fish store...believe it or not the price was about the same as online. A couple of stores in this area have recently had big piles of JBJ gear show up looking fresh off a truck. Maybe a container just cleared customs. The online pickings are pretty slim though.

I just bought the JBJ LED refugium light today from premium aquatics. I checked a bunch of other places and no one else seems to have them in stock.

Well, I got my radium bulb but seem to be having a problem. I am running the stock HQI ballast and after about 45 minutes the bulb kicked off. It sat about five minutes then came back on and in about 15 minutes it kicked off again. I pulled it out, cleaned the canopy, reinstalled it and am waiting to see what happens now. Keep your fingers crossed for me, I hope this works as I really love the color of this bulb. While it is on I can already see a better coloration of my corals.

Mr9iron: Do the following test o confirm if the newer bulb heats up more and is causing the excess temp sensor to switch off the halide after awhile:

With the halide on, aim a large fan at the top surface of the canopy. This should cool the canopy far better than the sotck fans. If whilst using the large fan the halide does not switch off, then PAnanoguy is correct.

If it is the case, you can try upgrading the 4xstock fans in the canopy to get better cooling. I think naotuners carry upgraded fans.

How long have you had the tank?

Sahin, thanks for the helpful post. I will try this and see what happens. I actually noticed that the tank went to 79 degrees much quicker than it did with the stock bulb resulting in my chiller kicking on. I have had the tank for about two years now. It was setup for approximately 6 months before I had a heat related disaster and was broken down and store until recently. If it is the heat sink, that is a bit discouraging as I bought a chiller to deal with water temp issues and now I have a hood temp issue.:rolleye1:

I cant remember the wavelength spectrum of the radium bulb compared to other bulbs, but I guess some bulbs quite possibly can give of more IR than others.

If the tank is two years old, then simply replacing the fans with newer ones might solve the problem. If not you will need the nanotuners uprated fan kit. If you are good at diy, you might want cut a couple of hole and stick in another two fans in addition to ones already there.

I may have to go that route. Do you know what size the fans are in the stock hqi? I've been looking online and cannot really find any information. I'm curious if I upgrade to the 60mm fans at nanotuners would help any.

Not sure the the size, best to just open the hood as you would do to change the bulb and unscrew one of the fans. Yo can probbaly find replacement fans in a PC shop etc.
