JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

Greetings
I have a JBJ 28 Gallon Nano-Cube Aquarium with 105 Watt Quad Compact Fluorescent Coming

Is the a consensus on what corals you can keep with the CF, or what corals you should not keep

Thanks
Ken

Anyone ever dealt with JBJ on a warranty issue? Just got a new LED cube, water tested it last night, and there are two small cracks in the back of it, last chamber.

I'm just wondering how long it's going to take to get resolved. This was supposed to be a family Christmas present, and we were hoping to have it cycling by the 25th.

I'm pretty bummed. :(

I recently purchased my first 28g nano cube after having a 75g reef, which leaves me with a few questions.

So far to my 28g nano cube all I have added to what comes with it is a stealth pro heater and an ato unit. What else would you recommend? I am considering a koralia nano for extra flow but only plan to run zoas, acans, and frogspawn/hammer. Also what in sump skimmer would you recommend? Any other upgrades?

Also, what are some recommendations on how to setup extra filtration in the sump. Would like to add some sort of micron filtering. This is my first nano tank so I am fairly concerned about water paramaters. Currently I have 21 pounds of fairly pourus fiji, is that enough? Do phosphates seem to be a problem in these or only if neglected (my concern is that even a slight overfeeding could cause a spike)?

And do people like using the refugium setup?

Just looking for ideas, thanks for any suggestions!

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these myself. Under $300, with stand, to my door is pretty hard to pass up. Doing the last bit of research now.

As far as corals go, IME you can keep pretty much anything. I wouldn't recommend any type of "normal" anemone though.

I have SPS, LPS, softies, Mini-maxi anemones in my tank...

thanks for your input kayl, i have the CF nano in the box waiting to be opened for christmas, have everything bought. i just need to determine which live rock to get! any suggestions on this? im thinking 25 lbs is about right? thanks!

28g Nano CF Quad

Yellow polyps
Lavendar mushroom
Flower pot
Duncan
Fiji yellow leather
Clam

Cleaner shrimp
3x sergeant damsels
Hermits, snails

Everything is happy. Except pots are a pain to keep alive I am finding, but that has nothing to do with the tank in any way.

which clam did you have? and is it on the sand bed or up in your rocks? i was fiddling with the idea of if i had enough light for one

It's a maxima and I have it bottom center in the substrate, it came from a 300g that is Many years old. It's probably 3". No issues good color.

ill post a pic..

Anyone else have any luck with clams under the CF Quad
I was thinking of going DIY LED,
but if the CF Quad is strong enough for a clam
Maybe Not

I had a warranty issue on my chiller, the chiller broke on me twice, they fixed it both times. Some of JBJ reps can be nasty but I never had a problem. Where did you buy it from? Call JBJ and see what they can do but it maybe better to go where you bought it from.

I switched out the main pumps to the maxi-jet 1200's. Big difference in circulation. Did not think the 30gph over the stock pumps would be so significant. Stuff was flying around the tank! Next modification I am considering is changing out the JBJ skimmer to the Tunze 9002. Reading the reviews on this skimmer at MarineDepot, some are warning about "major modifications" such as cutting the magnet off and modifying the hood on the tank. If I get the "skinny" replacement cup for the 9002, will I still have to mod the hood? Is cutting off the magnet that big a deal? For those that have this skimmer on the JBJ28, is this upgrade a worthwile improvement? It will fit into the center chamber correct?

I think the improvement is well worth the $$. Removing the magnet is easy (less than 5 minutes if you have a dremel tool and are careful). Once the magnet is removed, it will fit into the center chamber

three quick questions:

1) 28 hqi, has the 150w mh, 2 CF actinics, 4 led moonlights. what new bulbs do i need to buy to replace the first two? i was told a pheonix 14k bulb would be good, but does anyone have info on the CF's? are they straight pin, square pin, 2 or 4, which actinic (420nm or 460). my screws are quite rusty so i am afraid to open it until i get new ones.

2) where do i get the replacement screws for the light compartment, and any suggestions to prevent rot out? maybe a daub of silicone?

3) the chiller has an outlet on it, and a light that says external heater. does the chiller power on the outlet to run a heater?

Hi all! New to the forum. I'm planning on picking up one of these tanks for myself and my son. I have the opportunity to snag a CF Quad for 199. Good deal? Bad deal? Worth springing for the LED setup instead? Just curious as to what others on here prefer. I'm pretty open to options right now as I'm going to be taking this slow. Any advice/preferences would be welcome.

Thanks! Seems like a great community on here.
