JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

Has anyone replaced the moonlight LED's with something more powerful? Looking at a simple way of adding some blue. Running a 14k phoenix, but don't want to run a 20k+ ushio just yet.

I would lean towards the Ecoxotic stunners. I run one 453nm in another cube I have and they add some nice pop. At around 50$ they are pretty cheap too. Since I bought my 453 they have added some purples and RB which might really be what your looking for instead of blue. Here are the current colors you can buy them in.

453nm Blue, 8,000°K White/453nm Blue, 8,000°K White, 403nm UV, Magenta, Magenta/12,000°K, 445nm Royal Blue or Magenta/453nm Blue

Good luck!

HAPPY (early) BIRTHDAY TO ME!!

got it "used" today from someone who went HOB instead of this, including the brand new "used" steveT's cup.

am very surprised how loose the cup fits in though...

Hi, are you still using the Tunze 9002 skimmer on your tank? I am using mine but it has been very finicky the last couple of weeks. Some days there is no slime in the cup but today, there its producing lots of water, almost clear. I have to adjust the blue screw valve all the time. Any ideas?

Do the airline mod. I have owned 5 Tunze 9002's over the years and have never had one that stayed "dialed in" all the time. Just makes it easier to make adjustments that way.

Not 100% sure this is what they meant. Cant say for sure as Ive never had a tunze skimmer.

Yeah thats the one Blom. Its simply removing the airline from the screw up top, plugging the old hole, and attaching some new longer tube and a small valve to control from outside the tank. Takes about 10 minutes to do and costs about $3 for tube and valve at home depot. I can never get that video to work so if it doesnt try this link...

Cool! I have done this mod on every 9002 I have owned and it works like a champ. Big thing is make sure you dont kink the tubing. Once done you can really dial in the skimmer but as you have found out you will need to continuously tweak it.

Koralia nano

Koralia nano

what would you guys recommend for my my 28 JBJ LED ! or 2 Koralias? Should I go go with the 425 gph model...I plan to have both sps and lps.Actually anything that would be a larger tank.
Thanks
N

anyone running the aqua euro skimmer in the stock compartment? any pictures? can you still run your stock pump? and do you like the skimmer? thanks!

I am running a tunze 9002 with the Steveie T cup in my JBJ nano 28 LED. It has been running for 5 days and is really starting to pull some good foam out. That airline mod has definitly perked my interest though.

On another topic, has anyone added a fan(s) to there tank? On the back or an under the hood mod? I am thinking of adding a fan or two. My temp stays around 81-82. Anyone have any experience doing this?

Replacement screws for lighting canopy.

Replacement screws for lighting canopy.

I recall reading somewhere in this thread some people looking for replacement screws for the canopy. I seem to recall a discussion about how they rust fairly quickly. I had the same experience so I went to my local orchard supply hardware store and found some stainless replacements that shouldn't rust. I took a pic of them so if anyone needs to know the sizes needed or wants to order the same ones on line they'll be easier to identify. The longer ones worked for all of the lighting shield screws and the shorter ones (only 2 needed) worked for the feeding lid. These seemed to be a perfect replacement as far as size goes. I used these on my LED 28 Nano by the way. I'm not sure if the MH or PC tanks use the same screws or not.

Would they fit under the hood well?

I don't mind ripping the current LED's out and putting a strip or two of mix LED's.

I dont think you would need to rip out any of the installed leds in fact I think they may fit in between the rows of whites in the hood. Ecoxotic list the dimension of the ones I have as 12.5"L x 0.6"W x 0.4"H. I would probably lean toward 2-3 strips spread equally apart depending on how much "blue" you wanted to add. Here is their link you can check out but the pics dont really give you a great idea of how small and bright these suckers are...

Yeah, i saw that. Was going to go home and measure.

I have the HQI tank, not the LED tank, so will need to make sure I have space. Scared to put it right next to the MH bulb incase the plastic melts with heat.

They come stock with some adhesive on the back so you could stick them on the outside of the splash shield if there is one to get an idea but I hear you... I would have the same concerns with a MH.

Does anyone know if these will fit in the stock skimmer chamber? Not the center chamber.

Okay I'll post this question hoping for a quick answer before I go back through the 120 some odd pages to find it. I've tried searching but getting to many (or not enough) responses.

The moonlights on my CF Quad hood quit. It all started with the one of the lights flickering, if you prop open the hood it's the lower right one. When I noticed it I unplugged it from the timer. The next day when I plugged the timer back in, nothing, now none of them work.

So, just change the led's out? or does it sound like a ballast problem, wiring issue or what? I know nothing about lighting or electrical so any responses should be worded like you're talking to a 5 year old. :D

Thanks.
