JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

anyone using JBJ Unibody Dimmable 54 Watt LED system

anyone using JBJ Unibody Dimmable 54 Watt LED system

I have a well established JBJ 28 gallon HQI-186 watt retrofitted via nanotuners- fantastic SPS growth x 4 years however I am thinking about switching to LED lighting to save money and like the sleek look of the JBJ unibody. My concern is will I get the same quality of lighting I received from using the metal halides or am I going to sacrifice color and growth in my SPS? Any thoughts are appreciated

my tank is cloudy.. i just started developing green algae on my rocks. am i cycling? i already went through a cycle almost 2 months ago..water parameters are 0, will do another test tm evening with a 3-4 gallon water change..

Are you potentially overfeeding? What does your cuc look like? Have you stirred up your sub recently? Also, Google phytoplankton to see if is that kind of cloudy. You might need to increase mechanical filtration (are you running floss in your media basket?)

JBJ 54 watt LED unibody versus 150 watt MH for 28 gallon nanocube

I have a 28 gallon nanocube with metal halides lighting 150 watts, 36 watt PC actincs as well going on 4 years with excellent SPS and LPS growth. I am thinking of changing to LEDs to save some money in the long run and like the look of JBJ's unibody- its 54 watts and from what I can see , it should provide comparable light to my current metal halides. I dont want to sacrifice SPS color and growth however. Any thoughts?

i want to say a cross of that and micro bubbles..i do not have a media basket since my 9002 is in there. i only have a few reef crabs. i have not stirred up my substrate.

is anyone running a 9002? i cannot produce any skimmate.. can someone show me their water level in their skimmer? i tried running the 9002 7-9" submersed in water but still nothing.. is it because i do not have a bioload? i figured it would at least skim something?

Hey all. Im pretty sure I read it on this thread before, but because my comp is broke it's a pain to search...

I believe someone plumbed their TLF 150 into one of their return pump lines. Can someone explain to me how they did it, preferably with pictures. I'm brutal at plumbing and will need as much help as possible haha....

Also I assume this would mean both have to run at the same time?

I think what you're thinking of is replacing the return pump with a lower flow pump that runs to the reactor and then the outlet hose from the reactor runs back to the return into the display. Is that what you're talking about? I set mine up that way for a while but I didn't like the reduced flow I had in my display. I ended up going back to my stock return pump and now I run the reactor back into the return pump column. This pic probably won't be much help but just consider that the line with the green ball valve on it is coming from a pump in the return pump corner column. The other hose which is the outlet from the reactor was running to the elbow that flows out into the display.

You could give it a try but I didn't like reducing the amount that the tank is turned over. I recommend just finding room for the reactor pump in one of the heater columns and then returning it to one of the corners but that's just me.

I went through the same progression. Ended up like you.

I have the nano-cube 28g cf. I am looking in to a diatom / micron filter. i have been looking at the H.O.T. magnum. Is any one running one of these or a canister filter of some sort to supplement their filtering.

Also i will be getting an MP10. would i be able to use an MP40 dialed down on the nano-cube, to use for future upgrades. or is the MP40 just to big

As far as the canister filter goes I would stay away from them. I used one on an older tank and it led to too many problems. However I am lazy with maintenance so others might have better luck. Try Tlf reactors for gfo and carbon shown in previous posts.

well i have the H.O.T. magnum ordered and i have been looking at the two little fishes 150 reactors. I am an over feeder, so I'm hoping that the mag will help clean up my mess.

for the folks running a reactor, a few questions.

1. how much media do you go through in a given time frame. how much is it going to cost me to run one.

2. how long does the media last.

I am looking into the BRS 150 or the TLF 150 or nextreef mr1 shorty. any one have experience with any of these. and were would be the best place to get the GFO. thanks in advance for any help.

I have 2 x TLF 150's on my tank. I change the media roughly every month. I use either BRS HC GFO or TLF Phosban (prefer Phosban even though it's more expensive) and BRS ROX 0.8 GAC. I ordered the smallest portions from BRS a little over 8-mo ago (total about $80) and still have probably another month until I need to reorder. Cost is negligible for what you gain IMO.

Thank you angeo62. i was just going through your build thread for like the 4th time looking for how you set up your TLF 150's. How much media do you use in the reactor.

Haha, nice! PM me if you have any questions. I use about 1/3cup of GFO and 2/3cup of carbon. Make sure you ramp up your dosage slowly though, starting with a full dose can shock your system and bleach or kill corals.
