JBJ 30 gallon RL Sps tank.

Decided I needed more volume, more room, more depth. Went with the JBJ 30 gallon RL, and I could not be happier with the decision.

Tank is 4 days old as of today, made the complete transfer in 3 hours, I put a lot of planning into the transfer.

Mostly sps, one pink Skunk Clown, one Red Fire Shrimp, one Crocea Clam, 3 maxi mini anemones. Too many sps to name. A Duncan and a Red Goniopora for LPS and a smattering of Zoanthids: Rastas, Sunny D's......

AI Hydra 52 at 70%
Mp10QD at around 50%
Tunze 9001
Tunze Osmolator
Jager 75 watts.

Use of Zeo Nano supplements, Phosban. Two part dosing for now. Kalk each am. Lugols once a week. IO mix.

Ca 430
Alk 10 right now, I am going to let it drift back down to 8
Mag 1500
Phos undetectable
Nitrates 5
SG 1.025-26
Temp 79

Great looking tank. Cant wait to see how your tank looks in a year!
Take some more pictures when you have a chance.

Oh I can't wait either, sps are like watching a pot boil, it just seems like it takes forever for most to grow.

Thank you for the kind words.

looks great. Miss my JBJ30RL a little now thanks to your thread lol..subscribed for updates.

What tank do you have now? I have had JBJ exclusively for 10 years. I love their tanks.

very nice, more pics of the SPS

Thanks you.

I will try to get some more images today and post them. :-)

From left to right top row.

Stuber Acropora, the first successful acropora cultured in this hobby. It's a Stag with wonderful teal green coloration.

The green in the backround is an ORA Borealis. Next is a large pink Nausta, the white coral is an ORA Ant Insignis, below that on the edge is a Acropora Sarmentosa, wild colony.

Middle: Acropora Rosaria, and Acropora spathulata.

Last but not least a Tyree Pink Lemonade.

Tank will be a month old on the 11th. The normal algae weirdness for new tanks, already a lot of coralline. Still working on the types of Acropora I want to add. Got a Hyacinthus from LA, it arrived super chilled, this is my second attempt at getting one from LA. If this piece fails I am not going to give it another try unless I can find a piece that has been aquacultured for awhile.

I am just going to ramble here for a moment. It's use to befuddle me and amusing me when a reefer would complete a build, keep it for a couple months, tear it down and start over again. I was thought how frustrating is that. Why do they do that? Now I know

Once again I have overstocked my tank with corals. Some will go as others grow, I'll decide what I like the best and what I am the least happy with.

Besides righting some coral angles and placement I am done, I can not add anything else coral wise.

I am adding 3 more fish, and some peppermints, but now all I have to do is finish hooking up the dosing system. Done Done Done, boy that went by too fast.

Well is was nice having this talk with myself.

Heh, I think everyone just kind of sat back and appreciated the tank for what it was. You're not talking to yourself. The tank is definitely overstocked with corals, but I know how it goes. I'll soon start having prioritize my favored SPS too. That's okay though that's what it's all about.

The tank looks nice, sorry nothing is quite "stable" as you keep toying with it. I know how it goes, as I'm usually fixing an issue or just banging into a coral because my tank is so crowded, and then I have to rearrange things. I also have a biting clown, so when I'm doing anything, he bites me, and I jerk my hand and break something and have to rearrange corals.

I'm glad you're rearranging out of slow growth and personal interest/style though, not because you're breaking things.

I'm also very interested in seeing how your colors come out longer term. Are you taking shots with your phone camera? I've noticed it's a lot harder to get realistic looking photos from my phone, I have to break out the DSLR and do some color-adjustment to make things look as they do to they eye. I'm particularly interested in your coloration because I'm also running LEDs (though they're retrofit DIYs and not a fixture) so I'll likely get quite different colors. Also quite curious about the nano zeo supplements. I almost almost budged on buying them when someone somewhere was having a sale on zeo, but I said forget it. I am doing prodibio at half of their normal dosing routine, but maybe someday I'll try the zeo stuff since everyone loves it so much in SPS land.

Anyway, you're not alone, I always see the thread go by, I just haven't stopped in to say hi yet :smurf:

Thank you for the comments and interest. Not everyone likes Acropora I get it. The chemistry fascinates me, I like to measure/test and dose and rinse and repeat.

I know I pass by threads all the time where I could and should comment. This hobby is a passion and I want to encourage others to find the joy in it.

The Camera is just a Cannon Point and Shoot, a decent camera makes all the difference.

With regard to the Zeo additives, Spongepower and Pohls are the worth the money, I will probably just settle on both of those. I certainly do not need any more amino acids.

There was a time when I could just add Lps and anemones and soft corals and sit by and enjoy it. Now I tweak, not to excess but I like to play with colors and chemistry.

Thanks for the ear and interest.

I've hit the sane point in this hobby too with the chemistry and sps color nit picking. I've had enough softies trying to take over my sps that they'll never be in another one of my tanks.

Yup I hear ya, zoanthids are about as close to soft corals as I get.

At least you guys introduced zoanthids into yours... My liverock was dry for a month before I put it in my tank. Apparently zoanthids and green star polyps are very hardy...

Yea I've been hearing a lot of good things about the zeos, particularly the pohls, but also the sponge power (which is confusing because who cares about sponges?).

I'm working on my coloration and have been pretty happy, though not entirely. I had a brown out for a few weeks in the wake of a vortech seizing up on me, then I tried bringing the colors back with vodka and overdid it, which stressed stuff out still, but eventually it stabilized, and I'm adding bacteria and bacteria food now weekly, switching off every week between prodibio and microbacter7.

I bought the prodibio reefkit, so it includes iodine and strontium, so I've been dosing those, not sure if that's making a difference, but my colors definitely came back. I haven't even been dosing aminos recently, I just started cutting back on skimming (and the prodibio overflows my skimmer for a week on end, so I'm not skimming much at all for a week after dosing, increasing nutrients).

The only thing I want to try is adding more potassium. I have potassium nitrate, but I think my nitrates are fine (though I still have yet to have detectable nitrates on my API test kits). There are also some good articles on SPS color around that I've read, and they made me more interested in crap like potassium, iron, and finding more yellow corals, though yellow is hard to come by, and that whole "doing water changes" thing should provide plenty of those minerals.

Always more to tweak in the pursuit of color perfection. Maybe it would be easier to just get better at photoshop :p

I kind of wish I would stop introducing zoanthids and palys.

Now I have been curious to see what potassium does, it's one of the main ingredient in Zeo so I'll probably get around to playing with it eventually.

I add Strontium and Lugols, once a week except on water change week. My tank is a little more than a month old and coralline is already covering the back wall, ( brand new tank) and the reason for the coralline is those two products.

MB7 has always been one of my favorite products.

Beautiful tank, what kind of sand are you using?

Thanks you. :-) I always use a medium grade aragonite, this time CarbiSea. I like it and have used it a number of times. I am not a fan of flake or sugar sized.

Great looking tank, Can't wait to see future shots!

Thanks for stopping and taking a look. :-)

I was never a deep water acropora fan, but the smooth skins like Granulosa, Loripes and Rosaria are very cool.

My A. Rosaria, next to a Tyree Pink Lemonade.

I ordered a really nice Red Granulosa from DD (yeah I know but I could not pass it up).
