JBJ Dgi - lab salinity meter review

When I first decided to get a reef tank about 10 months ago I purchased a nano cube and the JBJ digi- lab salinity meter. Over the last several months I finally decided to start mixing my own salt water. Everything was going well till last week it seemed like I need just a little more salt then the instructions said. I have been shooting for 1.023 just to have a little room either way. Yesterday when I changed my water everything looked terrible and several corals slimed over. I checked my salinity and it was 1.023, ran several other test nothing unusual. I then made 10 gal of water to cook some rock. The meter starting giving all kinds of crazy numbers 1.010 -1.019. I put the meter in my tank and it said 1.011, I was shocked worried that the meter was reading way low, I pulled some water out and add fresh. I didnt sleep well of corse. I had to drive to AC and purhcase the only refractometer they had t $99 dollars. I calibrated it and sure enough my salinity was 1.028. I'm slowly lowering it but thank god I added some fresh water last night. Oh and I callibrate the meter every few months with the included solution. Needless to say I will not be purchasing any JBJ products in the near future.

Tim,

You should have call me or Norman. I have a refractometer if you needed to validate your meter. Also, if it is digital, maybe the battery is running low.
