JBJ nano lid

I got a used 24 gallon JBJ cube for christmas and I'm having a really weird issue that I was hoping someone might be able to help me solve. I can't seem to get the lid to sit into the hinges right (way too tight) and even if I could get it in, the lid wouldn't fit right. By not fit right, I mean that the placement of the hinge would hold the back of the lid up off of the tank so that there is about a 1/4" crack behind the tank. Also, the clearance on the hinge will not even let the hood close all the way because part of the hood hits part of the hinge before it closes all the way shut. I thought that maybe the lid had been replaced at some point and was for a newer or older model tank. Looking online, it doesn't seem like that's the case, but I can't really be sure. At some point did they change the way the hoods hinge onto the tanks? It's not that big of a deal for me to just take the whole thing on and off when I need to get in, but I'd like to know what the deal is.

I'd appreciate any help on this... a picture or two of your cube might also get me in the right direction.

Sounds like a problem I had with my JBL 24. I Broke my original hood and got a replacement. I had the same problems that you describe with the replacement and discovered that the replacement was from a newer tank and was slightly different from the old hood. So it may be that you have a mismatched tank and hood. I still used the replacement hood, I had to remove the rear hinges and the support leg slides from the inside of the tank. The hood now sits directly on the tank with no hinges.

Art- Sounds like you hit the nail on the head. Looking now at my hood (hinges off), the clear plastic light cover still hits the grooves for the support legs on the inside of the tank. So, they must have reworked the hoods/tanks at some point and the one I have seems likely to be a replacement.

If you'd like, I'll post your question on the nano board for you. Registration is a pain and I'm already a member.

If you'd do that I would appreciate it. Can't hurt. I tried registering but it didn't give me access right away.

Just posted it. I'll let you know as soon as they respond.

For a nanocube sized tanks, that site/forum is awesome!

hey Brian, trying to think of the guys name who I got that tank from. He goes to school at Murray...gary will remember his name. He did say he got the tank replaced by Ebay because the earlier version of those tanks were prone to leaks or something along those lines...can't think of the guy's name though.

Casey- Alright, problem solved. I wanted to be sure what I was dealing with. If the tank is new, but the lid is old, then I could buy a replacement lid and have everything squared away. The fans aren't working in the hood I have now because the AC->DC converter seems to be fried. I've contacted JBJ about how to get a replacement for that, but depending on how much that costs it might be more efficient to just buy a whole new hood... especially if it is likely to fit the tank.

You'd be looking for reefer5060 (Morgan). He is likely who Casey got it from (there are a few more that are from the Murray, Ky area, but I'm pretty sure it was Morgan).

I sent some pictures to Chris at nanotunerscom and he verified that the hood is a 2004 or earlier model and the tank is 2005 or later (says 2006 on the back of the tank). Apparently JBJ changed the design for 2005... hence the problem. They have the AC->DC converter for sale and newer hoods. I haven't decided yet what I want to do, but I appreciate the help that everyone has given.
