Jebao flow control

The instructions on the PP series Jebao wavemakers isn't very clear. It states that the knob controls the flow in else, and W2 mode. Is "the flow" GPH rate or the time between maximum and minimum flow?

It dictates how long it takes to speed up and slow down in else mode and it dictates the time frame of pulses in wave modes. Mine in wave mode 1 pulses on and off and is controlled by the knob, the more I turn it the longer it's on and off. In else mode it controls how turbulent the water can be by turning it. Else mode is constantly on but ramping up and down.
