Jebao WP25 Information

i'm really not trying to "stir the pot", and i know enough about business to know that advertising, marketing, paying employees/benefits, etc is NOT done for free... or as cheap in the u.s. as many other countries for that matter. but lets say this pump does come out, and does cost $30... of course, time will tell about it's quality/reliability (which will be a big factor for many) but this really doesn't look good for some of the other high end powerhead companies (sales wise, and reputation wise)...

i always wondered how/why something that is essentially pushing water could be so costly... yeah, it may have other bells and whistles, wireless syncing, etc but dropping $465 on a single powerhead always seemed insane to me. i understand that this hobby isn't always cheap, and cutting corners isn't always a good idea in general, but i can think of 500 other things that i'd rather spend $400+ on. maybe i'm nitpicking, it's not like these other companies are holding a gun to peoples heads to buy their product, but i always get a bad taste in my mouth when i see something that seems (and please correct me if 'm wrong) ridiculously marked up. obviously i don't have access to these other companies financials, and maybe their profit margin isn't as huge as it seems? and even if it is, are they wrong for trying to make the most money possible? if people are going to pay it, maybe they're just better at business than me! reputation on the other hand...

i hope i'm not jinxing anything, but what i'm getting at is that i really hope the WP25 and WP40 end up forcing some of the "high end" companies to lower consumer prices. despite a less than stellar reputation in the u.s. market, maybe these chinese companies can help level the playing field on a cornered market. even if the quality isn't all there, if these things last a year, i'd rather replace a $30 powerhead annually for the next decade than drop $400 all at once (the latter of which also requires replacements every so often.)

will be interesting to see where things go in the next year or two.

Ecotech will need to charge more to recoup their R&D costs.

Jeabo just "copied" their design,

It's no different in the biomedical industry. Designer drugs cost a premium while generic is significantly cheaper! ......Claritin vs Kirkland version.

'Generic' is great for consumers because it helps drives prices down. I'm not interested in paying for a $400 pump when I can get something similar for $100. It's economics!

Even 1 hobbyist buying one of these takes money outta ecotechs pockets. That's not good for BUSINESS. The truth of the matter is these pumps look more then decent. Stray voltage and "made in China" arguments are not going to suede too many people trying to save money. ALL EQUIPMENT IS SUBJECT TO MALFUNCTION. Tunze, ecotech, Red Dragon pumps, Benz, BMW, Apple, Samsung etc... Nothing wrong with a little fire under ecotechs rear. Jmo

What's not made in China?

We all shop at Walmart. Walmart has partnered with China to manufacture their products such as furniture!

Ikea is the same!

Once again, what's not made in China?

Everyone needs to really stop putting down China!.....need to stop saying 'Chinese' junk!

Almost everything is made in China simply because of cost. Wages in China is a fraction of wages in North America. If it wasn't for China, WalMarts will not exist. Everything will cost more money! In this case, we will all be paying $450 for the Ecotechs

are you thinking with your experience with the 40 that the 25 will not be to much for a 29 biocube?

That I can't say. I have a MP10 on a nano cube 24 though running long pulse 100% and reefcrest. With the power supply it should be fine you can't beat the randomness and undertow without the prop IME..

You make me laugh. Eco Tech recouped it's R&D costs for the Votech with the sale of the first 10 MP40's! It's a pump with a simple controller. It's not like 10 high paid scientists sat around for 2 years designing and engineering these things.

I'll give you the fact that the Vortech is a bit different, but then why is the Tunze still priced at $335, it doesn't have any real R&D involved? It's really a simple pump with a simple controller.

R&D costs... :fun4:

The WP is for Water Pump its how the name them. That's why someone in the other thread said there made by odyssey because there pumps start with WP.

That's pretty short sighted to think these companies don't have R&D. With that mindset, I guess all car manufacturers don't R&D any more - every car has four wheels - anyone can do that... :lolspin:

Just did a pre-order for the wp25 at fragarack dot com. It doesn't come out until end of the month but for the price it can't be beat. Got both the WP40 and WP25, can't go wrong with spending under $200 LOL

Seems like a case of the grass is always greener.... Tunze 6025 pumps have been selling for 60+ new and around 40 used. A controllable stand alone pump for under 100 is a hell of a deal in comparison to what is currently available despite whatever the profit margin is.

From my experience with a 55 and reading what others are saying 1 25 will probably be enough. We don't know for sure until the 25 comes out and we can see the flow it has, but the video of the pump on the first post of this thread was in about an 80 gallon tank.

If it were me, I'd probably go with two 25s. Although, like Sacohen said, we don't know for sure yet.
