Jebao WP25 Information

Now that the new tank is full of water, substrate & rock, and heating up ... I've got time to do some more looking around online.

Found a video on youtube of a dual WP-25 setup on a tank (the tank looked smaller than mine) - placed in corners, angled towards from middle of tank.

Now that the dust from the substrate is settling out of the tank, I'm going to try to straighten out some of the sand, and set this rock up in a better design. Then I'll play with the WP-25s to see what I can make them do.
 
I put my WP25s in the corners, angled towards front center of tank. For the past few days, I wasn't really seeing any wave action. Went back and read the instructions again, then went online and read the instructions for the Jebao dual controller. Finally tried to read as if I was a Chinese trying to translate it into English - and that's when it all started making sense.

One WP25 needs to be on a W2 program (sine wave) the other on W3 (constant flow). Once I adjusted, instant standing waves. AWESOME!
 
Long term update.

Wp40 died after 12 months. Wp25 died after 15 months. Interestingly enough the DC pump on my reef octopus DC 150 also died around the same amout of time...15 months.

It appears to me that it's probably the controllers that are dying.

Shrug. I ordered a kit 2 wp25s and a dual controller for 132 to get me through another 12 month s while I decide if I want a gyre vs a pair of mp10s.

In the warranty process with reef octopus to get a replacement but right now I'm not happy with these DC pumps. I'm not regretting the el cheapo jaebos but am regretting this skimmer vs having bought a vertex or Cone-s skimmer.

My experience has been the same. I've owned 3 WP-25's - one lasted about a month, one just died at 14 months, third is still working at 14 months. First one that failed was the pump body itself which was replaced by Fish Street for $20. Haven't swapped out the second dead one yet to see if it is the pump, controller, or power supply.

The WP -40 was bought in April of 2012 and the WP-25 was purchased in June of 2012.

I truly believe that the reason my pumps died was due to the fact that I got slack on cleaning them and they got all gunked up and basically chocked to death.

I got another WP-40 and probably will get a 2nd and I also have a DC-6000 on my 55 gallon and a DC-12000 will be going on my 90 gallon.

Jebao is the manufacturer and unlike American manufacturers they do not handle the warranties, they let the retailers do that.

I know you bought them as a group buy directly from them, but the one Group buy that I was involved with I know the the organizer had made arrangements with Jebao to have the products warranted.

I don't know if other GB organizers do that.

You've taken these quotes out of order.
The 2nd one was written way before the first one and even though both pumps died, I still feel the same way about the Jebao pumps.

So much so that I bought another WP-40 and DC-6000 and a DC-12000 and plan to get an additional WP-25 or 40.

So I may have gotten the years wrong (writing from memory), but the months in both posts were correct.

I'm still not sure what you were trying to point out with these 2 quotes and why single me out?

These were the correct dates of my purchases...

Helping to refresh your memory and clarify for people who might think you had these pumps a year before anyone else.
 
You should be happy you got as long of life from them as you did, it is the exception rather than the norm.
 
I am happy and like I said I still believe in them.

Also as I said I truly feel they would both still be running if I hadn't of slacked of on cleaning them.

The stock controller is really nice, but I think you get more out of them if the are connected to a controller like the Reef Angel or Apex.

I've fallen way behind on this thread as well as the Jebao. I recently just set up my tank again, can you recap on what peoples experiences are with these? Last group buy, I was able to get 2 dc12000 and 1 dc6000, and I still have the 40's that I modded.

I just put the dc12000 on my tank and would like to know if I will be having problems with it later on down the road (based on other peoples experiences). I also bought the replacement props for each pump just in case I run into a problem.
 
Bought my WP25 back in August of 2013 still working never cleaned it not once. I'm sure its slowed down because of no cleaning but don't want my sand blown all over the place either so has been just fine like it is.
 
I had to go back and look up when I purchased my WP-25 since it finally decided to die. Purchased end of September 2013.

It looks to have fully quit on me last night. I was able to get it to run again with a laptop power supply but this morning it stopped working again. I'm unsure where the failure actually lies but there are weak links at each point of this product.

1. The power supplies are not the greatest, I am wary of their long term reliability. I am unsure it played a part but getting it to work with the laptop PSU could be telling.

2. The controller while functional does not have the best build quality. It did it's job however, and I don't think that it is the problem with my pump.

3. The motor block and impeller assembly are what I suspect to be the root cause of my issues. I think that the alignment with the impeller shaft begins to shift off center when the pumps get dirty due to heat build up, causing it bind. Trying different depths with the ceramic bushings seems to yield varied results. The impeller itself appears to be in decent condition as do the ceramic bushings. I can't tell if what looks like wear on the magnet portion of the impeller is just poor manufacturing or in fact wear. Motor block itself is encased in epoxy, no way to access it.

All that being said I think that they are a solid product given the price point they are being sold at. Nothing else offers the functionality of this pump while being even remotely close to it in price. Would I love to have an Ecotech or Tunze controllable pump in my tank? Absolutely. But for the time being I am content to tinker with these until I can spring for that purchase.

I am intrigued by the Aqua Medic pumps since they appear to be upgraded Jebao/Jecod pumps with better quality control. Time will tell with those once they have been on the market longer and people have more time to come to a verdict on them as well. They are not far off in price but at the same time I am unsure if they are that much further ahead in quality either.
 
Question for Jebao guys, is there a difference in the older MP25 pump flow patterns to the newer WP etc. pumps? I really like the MP25's i have but I wish i could modify the flow pattern to be wider instead of narrow. Has anyone modded their pumps with success?
 
I've had my WP40 running for 4 years - No problems at all. I recently removed it as now it will serve as a backup to my vortechs. id recommend these for anyone getting into the hobby on a budget, Do not expect it to last forever and don't let it be your only form of circulation.
 
I've had a small one (RW-4 maybe?) running for around 2 years. About 6 months ago it started slowing down, so once a month I give it a vinegar soak and it fires right back up like normal. I'd use one of these pumps again, no question. I've also had an MP20, and two MP10's over the years, including one running the same tank as my Jabeo now, and they are definitely superior products. However, I haven't had my Jabeo burn out enough to warrant the additional cost of a Vortech.
