Good plan. Since you have the 20 I would leave the sand in the 90

Good answer!!! :D

Thanks for the help

I would wait about 2 weeks. Check nitrates and ammomia a few times during those 2 weeks and if they are good add the anemone. If the levels start to creep up, then I would wait. I don't think your tank will cycle again but you don't want to ad to much stuff to fast becaue you want to give the base rock time to get good bacteria growth on it.

Two weeks.. I think I can manage that! Actually I expect it'll take me easily that long to find an anemone I like anyway.

Dont get a Sabae they are hard to keep. Get a Red or green BTA

I was thinking red BTA, but they seem to be very 'common' these days so was thinking I'd try to find something different. Are there any other 'not so difficult' anemones, other than the BTA's?

I hear that carpets are easy.
My long tenicle is easy.
My Curley Que is Easy.
I have had 2 Sebaes and they each lasted for two months then went to poop

and this was awsome...

"Well, who knew that he already had the ring at home - he proposed a week later, by placing the ring in my current tank and then patiently waiting for me to find it. "

Do carpets host clowns?

I really like the long tentacle, I'm going to look into that one further - thanks for the idea!

I think I better wait a bit longer than two weeks before adding an anemone. I only want one, so I think I'll spend a bit of time figuring out exactly what one first.

Question about flow. I have 4 Koralia 4's and one K2 in the 90gal, plus the return. I wasn't planning to add anymore flow for the 180, but looking at it now with 1 K4 in there, it doesn't seem to be moving the water as much as I thought it would.

Anyone think this will be enough flow at least to start, or should I plan to go get more powerheads this weekend? Ultimately I'd like to add some controllable powerheads, but I'm probably 5 or 6 months off from getting the ok to spend on those which is why I was hoping to make do with what I have for now.

Well, today's the big day. Yesterday we moved as many hermit crabs & snails as we could get, as well as the clam. This morning I'll remove all the rock from the 90 into tubs, move it into the 180 & aquascape, place corals then move the fish.

I managed to get a camera finally, but I haven't figured out the settings yet so please excuse the terrible quality of the pics (I'm not going to blame the camera... yet).

90gal, as of yesterday (the colours are MUCH better than they seem in this pic!):

180gal, as of yesterday:

We're going for two separate rock islands in the 180. The one that's in there (shiny white base rock!) will get a bit bigger when I add some of the rock from the other tank & attach the coral. The rest of the rock will be placed in a pile on the right side.

Well, here we go!

Update on 'the big move'.

We have all the rock, coral & fish in the new tank. The sand storm is starting to settle a bit and the fish are coming out a little. The clown & yellow tang seem to be the most brave so far. My foxface is in his camoflauge against the rock.

The sump is out from under the old stand and getting ready to put it into the new stand & finish the plumbing.

So far a fairly smooth & uneventful day (dang, did I just say that!). We've been at it for 4.5 hours so far and probably have 2 hours to go before we can sit back & relax.

Pics to follow shortly.

Well, I think I have the worst camera luck on the planet these days. I took all sorts of pics to log the switch between the tanks, and when I went to download them the camera tells me the mem card needs to be formatted & all pics are lost. :(

So now I'm running without a mem card, so I can only take 6 pics at a time. Anyway, here's a couple showing where we're at right now.

90gal empty:

Blech, that is some GROSS water in there! We're going to wait a bit to try and get the rest of the snails & crabs out.

180gal full, and mostly aquascaped:

You can see my brave yellow tang (Lu) in the pic. Everyone else is in there somewhere. All the rocks sitting on the ground in front will be going in the sump, so what will be left is just the two islands.

Under the tank (in progress):

We're working on getting all the plumbing done, so we can get this baby up & running! Hopefully in the next couple of hours.

I think break time is over... back to work. :D

Sit back and relax? HA! Wrong hobby.

True! Maybe 'sit back with a cold one and admire a hard day's work'

Happy to hear that every thing went smooth.

Thanks! I'm glad for all the ideas ahead of time, we ended up going into it very prepared & everything went exactly as planned. What a long day though - who knew it could be such a task to move a tank 10 feet.

So far everyone is out & about, with the exception of my lyretail anthias & 2 fire shrimp. I know for sure they made it to the tank. I saw the anthias swimming after he was put in, but he hasn't been out since. I'm sure he's hidden himself somewhere & will show up at some point.

The fire shrimp I'm a bit more worried about. They were climbing in a rock I used as a base rock for the aquascaping, and I think they may have gotten burried when I put some extra sand in. Hopefully they can dig themselves out. If I don't see them before bed we'll dig out some of the sand around the rock and hopefully give them an escape route.
