Jenyphur's BioCube 32 LED Blog

Thanks CrabbyDan (great name)...

It sure has been fun. Today I added a toadstool leather coral. I am really hoping that my clowns take a liking to it.

My daughter claims she saw one of the clowns 'resting' on the duncan the other night but I am not so sure she really saw that. I have been watching for 2 days and nothing.

I think the duncan is doing great but I would love to see what a big one looks like all grown up if you have a pic, please post it.

Oh and no I didn't do anything special to the rock, basically cured it while cycling my tank. I am wanting to do a small tank for my office also. Ugh..this hobby is expensive. :)

Ha!!! You're not kidding ... I'm looking at office tanks too, and am hoping to install my Steve's LED retrofit tonight :)

Yes you can absolutely control the intensity. The unfortunate thing is that after nearly two months I still can't decide where I like them.

A quick iPhone pic of my steves. I currently have channel 1 (blues) on 50% and channel 2 (whites) on 35%

I have a retrofit from RapidLEDs with a Typhon controller in my 12g NanoCube.
You can control intensity along with start/end times and the duration of the ramping up and down of the LEDs' intensity.
Pretty sure Steve's LEDs come with the same features/functions.

Hi Jen! You can also look at videos on youtube with Steves, Rapids, Nanobox, etc on biocubes that are fun to look at to get some ideas.

If it were me and I had to do it again, RapidLED would be my go to again.

Rapid's customer service is second to none, and they will answer every question you have and even point you in the right direction on what you want for a setup. It may be a little more expensive then the other options, but someone holding your hand and walking you through an install or even what to buy is worth the extra $$.

Just because you wanted to see a full grown up duncan colony. This started as 2 little heads about 2 years ago(you can see the original frag in my biocube build thread). It's now well over 50 heads.

Wow. Thats super impressive !!!! Thank you. I am looking into Steves and Rapid now.

In my build thread you can see how the rapid retrofit kit works if your interested.

Every email, every phone call, every question I had was answered promptly and with precision. RapidLED IMO is the goto for biocube retrofit kits.

They have several retrofit kits, I opted for the aurora kit. Safe, simple install(even a DIY n00b could do it), and it has all the color and intensity you would need even for the most light demanding SPS.

LOL I sound like a RapidLED salesman.... But good companies that stand behind their product is so hard to find in this hobby.

The only thing I did not like about the aurora puck was being that it is so small, the middle of the tank has a super bright spot. Where as like reefwreak, his retofit kit is has the LED's spread out over the heatsink. If you read my build thread you will discover I ended up adding more LED's to the sides of the heatsink.

Another good source for the difference in the retrofit kits is reefwreaks build thread. His has the LED's spread out over the heatsink on individual starboards. The advantage to that is you can swap out the LED's if you don't like the look, or your corals don't like the combination of the light.

I have the steves led 14k kit for my bc29. It's a great light. Just today I finally have the blues running 100% and whites at 55%. Looks good. My only issue with it is I have an acro in the front middle of the tank that doesn't get any light on the front/bottomish and has like zero color cause of the shading. Needs some sort of relector. Other than that, rest of the corals are growing nicely. It was easy to install and didn't really need much hood modification. Dremmel tool has became really handy. Tech support had been really helpful and responsive when I had an issue.

Lots of good kits can't really go wrong with any of them.

Tank is looking good! Good luck!

Ok so a few new family members...I have added Crusher the emerald crab, Bubble Gum the purple firefish, Pete the little cherub angel, and Benny the Lawnmower Blenny. I love them all.....they all have great personalities. I am going to try and post some videos.
