Jerk Alert!

Today some jerk came in and while we were not looking, turned on the spiket on the quarantine system. He then bolted out of the store leaving the sump to flood probably close to 80 gallons on the floor. It caused a salinity & temp drop for the poor fish that were being qt'd. I'm really p***ed. We try to make this a very comfortable store where people can look at things without being bothered. This is twice this has happened so we are going to have to start watching everything. Can't people treat others with respect? I don't understand why anyone would do this.

This guy is tall and drives a blue stationwagon. If anyone knows who I am talking about let him know we are watching for him.
 
Keep a no-flash camera at hand, and if you see anyone you suspect in the place, just get out and casually take some store pictures, not to mention a shot of the car's rear. You might also alert other stores in the area.
 
There are lock out devices you can install on the ball valve that would not allow someone to turn the valve without having to take it off with a key. They are usually called Lock Out Tag Out devices. www.Mcmastercarr.com probably has them.
 
Sorry to hear about this Yale. I agree, why do people feel that they have to do things like this. It ruins things for everyone.

Jeff and Yale, sorry to hear this happened. Do you guys need any help cleaning the place up? If you do give me a call, I'm still downtown and can swing by.
 
I really don't understand people. What purpose does someone have to even do this other than to cause trouble. Then again I remember seeing morans back in highschool and college just randomly destroy things for no good reason because they thought it was funny.

By the way Yale, the clam looks great! It really makes my tank look more colorful. The only problem I had was with the emerald crab and I think the reason why he died is that he got crushed when he was in the bag. Oh well...

Don't worry about it Yale. You have always been helpful and great to me. I am going to chalk this up as having some bad luck and I am still not sure what exactly happened to the crab.

The clam does really spice up my tank. Thanks again!

That is just messed up. What is up with people these days. Destruction for the point of destruction. I don't get it.
 
I'm really sorry to hear that there is actually someone out there idiotic enough to do this. I previously worked for a security company where we worked with Digital Video Recording (DVR) equipment and I honestly don't think it would be a bad idea as a future plan. I have never been in your shop but I don't see how you could need more than 4 cameras....

You can find DVR units that support 4 channels and have the cameras included for about $1000. The nice thing about going digital is that if you need to turn over information to the police you can still retain a copy. If you are interested, HERE is a pretty good deal I found. If you decided to go this route I am never opposed to helping fellow reefers (especially LFS owners) out and I would be more than happy to help you install it.

Anyway just a thought, I hope you can find him and good luck in the future.
