OKAY! Time for an update,
Last weekend was
super busy, with the help of my good friend generaltoaster I managed to take down my decrepit acrylic (eww acrylic!) 75 gallon and completely rearrange my room. Also managed to completely loose a melanarus wrasse and a chromis, just totally disappeared within the muck. Moved the 75 to the side yard where my waste RO line runs to. I now use the old return pump attached to a garden hose to water the lawn. Go saving water and getting your mother off of your back!
After shampooing the carpet to rid it of the salt-creep we then siphoned the water in my 34 gallon into buckets and moved it about 4' to the left. No longer is it shoved in the corner at the foot of my bed!
(The dog enjoying the view)
It is now the centerpiece of the room! One of the after thoughts was "Oh crap! I forgot about the lights!" and had to redrill the holes. A part of this enterprise was climbing up into the attic to get the hardware out of the ceiling. Also a part of this was the ladder sliding out from under me right as I was about to climb through the door in the ceiling. We now have a knee sized dent in our washing machine... I then found out that the hardware I went up to retrieve was buried under a foot of insulation and that I apparently had spares and could have left them up there in the first place. After that painful and frustrating activity I accidentally broke the corner off of my glass tank cover. A great way to end the weekend.
Equipment wise I haven't changed anything other then add some cool color changing LEDs to the sump area, planning on adding them to the back of the tank to add a little
pizzazz.
(Note the rats nest that I'm hoping to eliminate with the remote sump)
I left about 3.75 foot of room for my external sump idea next to the tank. Still having a lot of difficulty finding a suitable container tall enough to fit my skimmer from the 75gallon. If anyone has a skimmer rated for a ~75gal tank and would like to trade for a Reef Octopus XS160 skimmer let me know! Also to go in this box area would be a calcium reactor graciously donated to me from one of our fellow reefers. I need to get a regulator and a tank, any suggestions on which regulator?
I will be modifying and reusing the netting that I had over my 75. Haven't gotten around to doing that quite yet so I had to just lay them over the top. If I leave it open for even an hour it is an invitation for one of my newest fish to go carpet surfing. Got an awesome little longnosed hawkfish at Aquarium Depot, here is a blurry picture of him next to my tailspot:
Also added a cleaner shrimp, and two urchins. Been told that they are fire urchins, I'll keep an eye out while cleaning.
On the way back from the Chico swap Shawn had the idea to stop off at Gaiser Pets in Yuba City. Picked up this awesome 42 eyed, 5 colored acan. The majority of it is purple but most of the eyes are a light blue, with splotches of green, yellow, and orange. Guess how much I got the whole colony for!
(Stupid phone wont capture its beauty!)
Also added a few other frags from the swap and various other local stores.
Although falling out of the ceiling wasn't really apart of the plan it was well worth it to fall asleep to watching my fish up close instead of blurry splotches across the room.
Any comments or advice is appreciated!
