JHendu's 115 tall

Lol, having lots of different things in a tank can be very hard to do, thats why I eventually switched to a almost all SPS tank with a couple things of zoos. Its much easier this way and I don't have to worry as much.

I have a mixed nano. I tried going to just sps, but I am too in love with diversity and exotic colors. I have LPS, sps, zoos, shrooms, xenia, palys, and more. Wow, hard to believe they all fit.

I have not had luck with kalkwasser either. I also tried the Salifert All-in-One and trace hard. I had difficulty keeping the values stable despite otherwise good results.

I now use Oceans Blend 2 part and that did the trick. The beauty of this brand is that it also has all other trace elements so there is no need to purchase any other additives. It is also less expensive than other brands. I soley rely on Oceans Blend 2 part and weekly 20% water changes with RO/DI and Instant Ocean salt. I prefer to mix my own so I can control the SG.

I feed the corals once or twice a week with TLF Phytoplan and Cyclopeeze. I also feed the fish once to three times a week.

I have been meaning to suggest to you. I think you said your last test revealed 1.022 SG. This is good for fish, but too low for corals. Aim for 1.025 with +/- .001 tolerance. Corals will thrive better with near NSW levels of salinity.

Yup, I knew the SG was low. I normally aim for that 1.025 mark. I'm planning on doing a small water change this weekend and will try to beef up the sg in the process.

TV

TV

In addition to the expenses of the new tank set up, our 57in rear projection Sony TV died so we had to replace it with a 58in plasma. I'll need to pay for that for a bit before I can invest in a reactor.

cant believe he picked a TV over a calcium reactor, well i'm sure the day will come when that will change,

I would not recommend a reactor for a nano. It is a big expense and you can control alk and Ca with a good 2 part solution.

So things are going well at about the 18 day mark. Still some minor algae covering the glass and a few noticeable spots on portions of the foam. Still nothing overwhelming or discouraging. I have setup the fish only 45 gallon and removed the Yellow tang, Koran angel and arrow crab so far. I'm still trying to catch the coral beauty and the coral banded shrimp but they are proving to be quite crafty. It turns out that the Koran was more of a problem than I had realized. The new open brain that I had put in there had been doing quite poorly. I had noticed a little bit of nipping by the Koran but not enought for that to jump out as the main reason. I figured it was a water issue although my favites were doing well. 2 nights ago I was finally able to catch the Koran and move him. Since then the open brain has made a remarkable recovery and is back to about 75% of its original quality. My favites are looking better as well. Turns out that guy was doing more than I had noticed. I am very happy to have been able to move him. Water parameters will be checked tonight so keep your fingers crossed for me.

I have a mixed tank, SPS, LPS, and Zoos. Only time I ever run into problems are if they are too close, or touching each other. Even then, all I do is move them and everything is fine.

Update. All is well. A little bit of cyano in the fuge but nothing up top. Currently have the MAG-18 for the return but have it valved back a bit. Theoretically the tank shoudl be running at its max possible turnover for the overflow/bulkhead setup that I have. Substrate is starting to get a slight brownish tint to it as well. I figured that the pristine white would be hard to keep forever. I added a GEO calcium rector earlier this week and from what I can see my calc levels are holding around 420. I'm adding a PH monitor tomorrow to better keep track of the tank. Added to croceas last week and 1 seems to be dead and the other is showing signs of recession. Not sure if there is a parameter issue or if its the coral beauty angel. All other critters are doing well.

You got those clams from Vince?? I got two last week as well and one died after a couple of days, and but the other was is doing alright, not fully open but I am giving it a little bit. Just coincedence???
