Jims 16" bubble

Sorry no news.

I have thought about 2 or 3 bluestripe pipefish. But wasn't sure if this little tank would just torture them. Any one kept bluestripes? Are they active swimmers or are the more like free swimming seahorses? I also have thought about a nano with just 3-4 specifically selected sps for colors & shapes. It's hard to stop thinking of a few non-photo synthetics though.

Jim what kind of super glue did you use to get the sand to stick to the pvc? Did you glue the rock on to?

I do wood working, & super glue is used a lot. Any wood working store has it in different thicknesses, that's what I used but I'm pretty sure it's all the same stuff. I used the reef two part epoxy putty to glue rocks on first, then super glue for sand.

very nice build.

I kept an African Bluestripe pipefish in an 8 gal for a few years. They like gentle flow and hover rather than swim, perfect for nanos I think, but prefer live food. Will you add a cover? For my bowl I'm using a clear acrylic disk with a beveled edge- it works great and may fit in with your minimalistic approach.

My goal is to have water in the tank in two weeks. Epoxy is on the top (needs sanding), will silicone the pvc plumbing thing in & seal the bottom of the sump today (needs two weeks to cure) Will paint finish color next week.

I have decided to keep non-photosynthetic corals & one or two firefish & sexy shrimp in this system. So I put together a new rock to set atop the the plumbing fixture that will work better for mounting corals on then the rock for a nem I started with. I got a skimmer for the sump, a Tunze 9206. It is way way bigger than normally needed for a tank this size, but have to feed NPS coral a ton so need over sized skimmer to keep up.

Think I have figured out how to mount the light too.

I will be posting some more pix soon.

I know, haven't done much on it lately. I have been working on some wood pieces for a show, I needed 10 bowls for it.

My LFS got a really nice gorgonian in. I happen to be there when they took it out of the bag. Before I even thought I said it was mine. I also ordered some NPS from LA. So I will be housing them in temporary accommodations. A good incentive to get this done!

You ever think about using a dosing pump to feed your NPS tank? I just happen to have one for sale.

I had a NPS tank before, & used a dosing pump. It pumped food from a small tank with a ice probe in it. It didn't work out. If your going to dose feed the food & pumps pretty much needs to be in a mini fridge, which I don't have room or desire for. So I'm going to use a fishmate auto feeder to feed dry foods four times a day & feed a couple more manually with refrigerated & frozen foods. I'll start with mostly the less demanding corals but pretty sure that will work just fine.

Thanks every one!

laugh I know

Just put second coat of paint on, have plumbing parts to do final return plumbing inside the ring, got 1/2" conduit for the light, got the fishmate feeder, need to make a way to hold it & the skimmer in the sump area. Now that I say all that it sounds like a lot to get done, doesn't it?

I'll take some more pix this weekend.

Lots of progress

Lots of progress

Finally got some work done, paint for one. I know it looks pretty bright red but in the light in the living room it matches my red leather chair.

plumbingringin.jpg

Got the plumbing ring siliconed in, also the sump sealed. Epoxy finish on the wood top.

returnplumbing.jpg

This is the return pluming I ended up with.

plumingin.jpg

Return pluming installed.

skimmer.jpg

This is my skimmer. It is way over sized but maybe not with heavy feeding NPS. Also over priced for what will be about a 10gal system. But it fits in the low overhead in the sump, & I can get it in & out through the front door of sump.

feeder.jpg

Auto feed for dry food feeding the NPS.

skimmerstand.jpg

Made a stand for the skimmer.

federstand.jpg

Also made a stand for the auto feeder. Needed to be that high so I can get to the air adjustment on the skimmer, plus get the collection cup out. The bulk head & 1" pluming is where the water from the tank will come into the sump. This way there will be a lot of turbulence where the food will fall in the sump & soak/blend.

gearinsump.jpg

Gear in the sump. tight fit.

And put together so far.

Also did some work on the light rig. Pix of that tomorrow or the next day. Feels good to make some headway.
