Joe's Juice and GBTA

I found a very tiny aptasia on a recently acquired rock of blastos frags.
DSCN0591.jpg

its in between the two healthy looking blasto and beneath the dead blasto skeleton at the top. (aptasia not shown on the picture)
my question is if i use joe's juice on the aptasia, will it affect my GBTA? i remember reading that aptasias are nuisance anenomes, so if i use joe's juice in my system will it kill or harm my GBTA? im afraid the joe's juice will linger in my system and have a long term affect on my anenome.
i just got my GBTA a week ago and has been shy to come out of the hole it has been hiding in. i rather not use joes juice and i rather not buy a coral banded shrimp (they're the ones that eat aptasia right) because i want to keep my bioload to a minimum because i have nitrates around 40ppm. *i have already taken measure to reduce my nitrates please dont bash me on that subject.*

what other measures can i take to get rid of the aptasia? should i break the rock the frags are on and chip off the piece where the aptasia is on? *i would rather not*

i would like to take care of this before it becomes a bring problem. any advice will help.

thanks

Joe's Juice will be safe if you're careful. I've poured it on mushroom corals and Xenia with no ill effects. I would turn off the pump, put a small amount of Joe's Juice on the anemone, and make sure that none of the Juice blows around the tank.

Another alternative is to inject the Aiptasia with vinegar.

Joe's Juice seems to be a lime paste, so I don't think it'll have any long-term effects. I have used it in a tank with a rose BTA with no troubles.

will i use the same applicator for the vinegar that comes with joe's juice or should i get an actual medical syringe?

great. i just found two more small aptasias on my neon green candy cane. and guess what. its from the same person i got the blasto frag from. my question is can you scrape off the aptasia? or will they just come back? is joe's juice a permanent solution to aptasia?

thanks

I've found Joe's Juice to work, but it takes two or three applications to get rid of the little buggers.

I wouldn't scrape of the aptasia. It'll just cause pieces to drift into other parts of the LR and... more aptasia.

Merry and Happy...

I'd stick with Joe's Juice or lime paste. Aiptasia can be scraped off glass, if you're careful, but the rough coral surface is harder to clean.

kalkwasser mix, injected does the job. Careful not to break through the back of it when injecting or your just wasting you rtime injecting nothing.
Small amounts can be no problem to your tank!

Cheers

to describe how small the aptasia is... its about this big ==<. now do i have to pierce it thru their membrane and inject it into/inside the body of the aptasia? how do i do so when its so tiny. the other two i found on my candy cane are even smaller than the one i describe above.

i know this sounds tedious but can someone please explain in more detail. i just want to make sure i take the necessary precautions before i do anything that may kill the surrounding coral.

thanks

Very small ones can be covered with kalk paste and killed that way. Sometimes, more than one treatment is required. The lime paste acts as an oxidizer, or caustic solution, to destroy the anemone. It will do the same to any tissues it hits, though.

i bought some Fiji uncured once, on 40 lbs i had about 100+ aps. pop up just after cycling. i bought 2 pepermint shrimp and within 2 weeks all aps. were completely gone. the pep's lived happily ever after and the aps. have not reutrned in over a year.

i wouldnt mind gettin peppermints but im afraid for my clowns and im trying to keep my bio load down because i have issues with nitrates...i think i may break the rock that my blastos are on and chip off the piece that has the aptasia...and for the aptasia on my candy cane i will put the lime paste on it...thanks for all the help
