joe's juice is a joke

It would be nice if the directions said that. I don't think Joe's Juice is much more than a thin Kalk juice anyway. I have tried just about everything and nothing has killed my aptasia.

BTW, aptasia isn't caused by poor reefkeeping. Just like flatworms they come in undetected on rocks or corals and suddenly appear. If you are lucky enough to notice the first few and can get them under control, great. But, as stated in previous posts, they can take off and then you have a problem. I am battling them right now and I've never had a problem in my former tanks. I am going to try my luck with kalk paste and if that doesn't work I'll get a nudi if I can find one.

I have never tried joe's juice. I have a large on 1" when fully open, I'd hate to see it mulitiply, will a peppermint shrimp eat something that big?

Agree w/ that.
And like fishwife said it's not a maintenence or dirty tank thing, apt is usuall a hitcher in LR.
I bought a clump of chaeto once and had several apts pop up in that.

see that's what i was afraid of, as long as you dont touch them, they wont multiply like crazy

The problem i had with joes' juice is that is was so expensive. I didn't want to use what was needed on each aptasia because I wanted to nuke them all. I then got a lb. of pickling lime and went to town. It is taking a long time but at least aptasia's aren't the first thing you see when you look at my tank. Be carefull if you have a lot to kill. the kalk will spike your pH and the dead aptasia can cause a mini cycle.

I used some anti aptasis stuff called Tropic Marin and it did wonders the first time I used it. I'm new to this and at first I was feedint the aptasia because I didn't know what they were but they were living so I fed them I had about 12 and got rid of most of them but I also had peppermint shrimp and they just annilated the aptasia that was a pretty decent size but that shrimp had that aptasia into shreds in just a few seconds. lol

I feel your pain. I've tried Joes Juice, Kalk slurry paste injection, vinigar injection, BOILING all the above injection, Pepermint Shrimp, but the still pop back up from time to time. That and the Majano's. Good Luck. Nice RBTA. Nice tank.

i have never had a prob with joe's it has worked for me but for some i guess it don't,,my friend has had alot of the same probs..i have never really had a bad aptasia outbreak though...i got a few peppermint shrimps now and i have not seen one in 4 or 5 months

I really like Joe’s juice. You can even use it to get rid of zoos or other things that you don’t want. Make sure you don’t touch the aptasia with the tip of the syringe. It will start to close and you won’t be able to feed it enough. I have never sucked the leftovers up, but usually I never have any come back after I kill them. Make sure you use more than you think you need. I tend to over kill them.

The Joes Juice did/and didn't make them spread. Like all anemones' when in mortal danger, they split. They try to survive. If they aren't totally killed, they split, and return in numbers. And...they are tough to kill. When I use Joes Juice, I let it eat, then check back later on that day, and check for a week. I see ANY of the anemone starting to return or any feeding tentacles, I nuke it again. The Pepermint Shrimp will only eat the smaller ones, sometimes. Plus, if you feed your tank well, they won't touch them.

All things good, for our corals, are good for these pests also. They are the weeds in our front lawn. Hope you get rid of them, your tank is beautiful.
