johnathan's graph question over my 90g

Hey guys so i was wondering if johnathan's graph can grow sps corals. as my tank sits right now with my 2 radions i have them set up exactly to johnathan's graph import (same light spectrum and same intensity) all my lps, RBTA, mushrooms, and zoas are all doing fine. im in the process in buying some nice pieces of sps but im curious if they will thrive under this graph. another reason why im skeptical is because my RBTA hasnt moved from its spot from when i switched from my old PC lights (1 1/2 watt per gallon lol) to the radions. i figured my RBTA would freak out and move but nothing; not even a budge. also ive had no bleaching or any type of stress in the corals from the change in lights. now i know thats not normal so what do you guys think? did i luck out and now ready for sps? thanks for your time.

Might I suggest looking at the graph components? Check the spectral contribution at each event on the graph, as well as the intensity.

Hi Eric,

I’m glad you are enjoying the graph! Overall, the graph was designed to be used on a 20” cube that consists of a mixed reef containing zoanthids, LPS and SPS. With that being said, the brightness peaks in the late afternoon at about 60% intensity. Clicking on the point shows the brightness of all at 100%, but you have to take into consideration that dimming down all colors to some extent (to reach the color spectrums desired, which for me was much more blue) will also affect the brightness.

To answer your question, I think using my graph with (2) XR30w’s over a standard 90G will grow SPS just fine, especially if they are placed in the upper portion of the aquarium. If you are concerned about brightness after adding them, you can always increase the blue and white color sliders a bit for the mid-daytime points a bit. Doing this will increase the overall PAR as much as about 20% without changing the overall color spectrum significantly.

Hopefully this answers your questions; be sure to post some pictures of your aquarium on the RC thread!

ah thank you jonathan i just got done reading your email and i was gonna post it on here just in case others wanted to know how to do this as well. thanks buddy.

For anyone who would like to try out some popular graphs (lighting schedules):

1. Click either the following links to download:
Graph One (16 hr. total run time, maximum of ~100% intensity during peak time)
Jons Graph (14 hr. total run time, maximum of ~70% intensity during peak time).
2. Save either (.etg) file to your computer (i.e. My Documents).
3. With (1) light plugged into the computer via USB, open up the ES software.
4. In Artificial mode, click on your group name (i.e. "Radion Lights").
5. Click the "Import" button above the Artificial Mode graph.
6. Select the .etg file that you previously saved.
7. Click YES, confirming that you'd like to import a shared graph.
8. The software will ask you if you'd like to shift the start day time. If so, click yes.
9. Click the "Program All" button to apply all changes to your light(s).
10. Finally, go to "File > Save Project" and close the ES software.

How do you get the graph into ur lights? I saved it on my pc and went to import clicked the jonsradiongraph. But the lights say I can't upload cause I am either loading an artificial graph in the natural mode or visa versa. What am I doing wrong?

Not sure quite what you mean... you can only save/share/import Artificial Mode graphs.

I had my lights set on artificial and tried to put Jon's graph into both lights. The error was at the top left in red. It said (I'm paraphrasing) basically that I could not import an artificial graph in the natural mode and visa versa. The words visa versa were used in the error message. I'm just checking if I'm saving it correctly or not. It says save as "Jonsradiongraph.zip file" I believe that's how it was. I would need to be at the computer I saved it on to know for sure. But it was something real similar if not exact.

I basically wanna know if I'm doing it wrong or if there is a problem with my fixtures. I would imagine its user error if I was placing a bet here!!!

BTW... I left a message with tech support on Monday. No call back yet.......

Without knowing exactly what messages your receiving and how your going about importing the graph, it's hard for me to diagnose what the issue might be.

The file is a .etg (ecotech graph) file and should be saved as such. You might have to unzip or extract it before trying to import it.

It sounds like your best bet would be to contact us directly during normal business hours and we'd be happy to assist further.

sorru to hijack, i followed you instructions and used your graph, all i did is change the timing from 11-11 to 12-12, its currently 6:53 and this is how my lights look...

is this how they are suppose to look or something wrong?

yea that doesnt look right at all. i would contact ecotech and ask them. in the mean time if i was you id start from scratch and reset all your units. reprogram, recalibrate, and try importing the graph again and let up your lights so they arnt mismatched like they are.

I figured out the problem and fixed it, but now i have a new issue, lights are suppose to turn off at 12 midnight but stay dim till 12:30 or so but tonight one side is still dimly lit...idk what to do anyone have this problem before?

I would try to do factory reset and than reprogram these once to see if that fixes the issue.
