hello I am highly interested in joining a club .

I had a few questions

Do I have to go to every meetings if not whats the min. ?

I think thats about it

MASLAC membership

MASLAC membership

The only requirement from MASLAC is that you pay your annual dues. The dues are $30/year but are pro-rated so I think it would be $15 to join now.

We have a monthly meeting on the 2nd Saturday of the month (although the July meeting is being moved to 15th). We have a raffle every month and use the proceeds from the raffle (and the membership dues) to pay for speakers and club activities. Jeff's Exotic Fish and Mark's Tropical Fish support the club with member discounts and many other local establishments support the club with donations and specials. We organize workshop and outside activities like going to the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific or last months BBQ. Earlier this year, Chris from ReeferMadness.us came and discussed Coral identification and gave away many, many frags.

Here are some links to several of this years newsletters:

You can also visit the MASLAC.org website for club information.

Hope this helps.

Do it.
Joining a club is great. You can meet all the nerds that post on here and find out that we are all a bunch of cool people.
You also get to participate in group activities. The local clubs around here often get invited to behind-the-scenes stuff at various facilities. The last one I went to was a trip to SeaCrop. We got to see their facility from the water pumping station (pumped directly from the ocean) to the coral greenhouse (no artificial lights, 100% sunlight). Cool, eh?
The meets often have speakers giving more insight on a particular subject. MASLAC and SCMAS seem to have the good speakers come quite often. Most of them are "industry professionals" from all over.

You dont have to join the club to go to a meet. You dont have to go to every meet, either. Bbut to take advantage of all a club has to offer you'd have to pay a small yearly club due. This usually allows you to participate in the extra-curricular activities as well as helping pay for some of the club events.

My advice, just show up to a few meets and check it out. Meet some people. If you think its cool, join the club. Theres absolutely no pressure except that all the cool kids are doing it. Heh, jk. :)

Camaraderie, work shops, raffles, tank tours, speakers, tours of marine facilities, presentation, frag swaps, group buys.
I can only speak for the Southern California Marine Aquarium Society (www.scmas.org). You don't have to go to any meetings if you don't want to.

With any club you join, the biggest benefit is making the meetings. By missing the meetings, you miss out on guest speakers, member presentations, new product info and reviews, group buys, deals from other members, raffles............... to much good stuff!

Non-members are welcome at meetings, so if you are halfway between two clubs, you can check them both out and see which one has a vibe that you like best, or join both.

Some events, workshops, group buys, etc. are members-only; some things are open to the general public. SCMAS (Orange County) is $25/year. Store discounts are members-only.
