Joint Nov. meeting.... MENU IDEAS ?

So, the chef's from down state and I are going to work together and have a blowout spread as a loose "holiday/ reef meet" type thing.

We need suggestions as to what people would like.....

there should be about 50 peopel or so at this meeting, so no saying "beef wellington".... I'll personaly cram a ladle up yer poopershute for comments like that and I'm sure the other guys will lend a foot to make sure it stays lodged :p

So basically you need something that can be prepared in large amounts which most everyone likes.? Hmmmmm

This usually leads to something Italian. Ex. Lasagna, baked Ziti or stuffed shells. Things along those lines usually work out easy for large groups.

We can't exclude our veggie friends i know. I prefer meat sauce;) So I'm sure someone will chime in with an idea there?

Being German. I'm a meat and potatos kinda guy but i like Itallian. No probs. Not sure how people feel about casseroles??? But there is always at least one thing you wish wasn't in there. Yuk. lol

I'm sure many members will volunteer to bring dishes if needed? This is like planning family Thanksgiving. lol

Whats up with chicken parm? ;)
Sounds good to me, or any Italian for that matter. Agree with Kris on saying Italian is prolly one of the most widely liked types of food. Not to mention most Italian dishes are fairly easy to make.

I usually have to pay extra for that!
Pasta is easy to make in large batches. If someone has an idea for a dish maybe we can chip in? As was stated I'm sure people would bring dishes also if asked or needed (myself included).

How about a giant seafood paella? :D

We have a winner!!:D I LOVE that stuff. If the mash tasted that good let me know, I'll make it for myself.

How about a pasta primavera.

Noodles are relatively cheap and go a long way, the recipe can easily be made to accomodate vegitarians, and can easily choose between some type of seafood or chicken for the meat lovers out there.

With three chefs, how about going with a lot chicken cutlets and pasta, but multiple sauces for both (marinara, marsala, piccata, etc.)?

I like the sound of this..

I'm a very picky eater so thats why I suggested chicken parm as its well enjoyed by many.. and for pasta, ziti is fine..

I hate veggies and seafood :p

Well, Pasta is a must have ( price point wise) to feed a lot of people.

Chicken is indeed cheaper than Filet mignion Beef, and seafood paella can get sexpensive price wise.

Picatta would be good :)

Hey you guys shouldn't have to do all of the work. I'm/we're very flexible but would it just be easier to just do it up pot luck style and let folks from both clubs just post what they're bringing? Again though if you'd rather do an organized menu that's cool too. Just let us know what we can do to help in that case!

Tom

Only problem I can forsee with a strictly pot luck is a lot of people tend to have "bad luck", and never get a sample of "everything" as the line gets going down the table when there is a LOT of people. no-offence to anyone here, but somepeople have no clue how to cook for potluck and think "large portions" is the entire 12 oz box of stuffing.... LOL. Pot luck works for small gatherings, but I've got horror stories I cantell from Boy Scout troop dinners and many other functions where we end up stopping at Mc Donalds BEFORE the meeting to make sure that we actualy do get some form of a meal that evening other than some butterpats spread on some mellon pressed between 2 stale rolls and a spoonfull of baked beans..... AND choices of 4 casserole dishes of um... stuffing, or stuffing, or stuffing, or stuffing ( with beans).

oh how I longed to get a nice juicy.................. ANYTHING OTHER THAN STUFFING !!

Oh the memories... gah!

:mad2: :eek2:
