I will try lowering the lights 3"lower once I get my rocks in the tank and play with the lighting a bit to see what looks best. I dont know if u noticed the tank Picts but one the lighting is more blue and one is more white. I have to descide which one I like better. Anyhow once again thanks for the sugesstions.
I didn’t notice since I thought it was just because of the camera. If they the bulbs are from the same manufacturer it just may take some time for the bulbs to burn in.

This is somthing i thought about. But the bio balls i thought was the biofiltration. But ill give it some thought. Ill give the spronge a try. Thanks for the idea.
Yes bio-balls are good for biofiltration but that’s the problem they are actually to good at converting waste to nitrates. You end up raising your nitrates to high in a reef tank. They are perfect for a fish only tank.

In order to get rid of the micro bubbles you need to find some method to dissipate them. Some people use baffles, foam, or a sponge. Baffles are very effective but you need room in your sump for them. That will be the hardest part with you setup because of the small sump. It can be overcome but you will just need to do some trial and error on what works best.

One thing I noticed in your sump is bio-balls. In a reef setup with live rock they are generally not needed or desired. Most people remove them sooner or later.

I would rework the sump and remove the bio-ball and place the pump for the protein skimmer in the first chamber with the return. Then maybe add some baffles to remove the bubbles before getting to the second chamber were your return pump will be.

I agree! Get rid of the balls haha.. Anyway nice tank! If i were you i would use this idea and upgrade your sump. You can do it yourself or get a custom one. Using baffles and separate section for your skimmer which would take care of your micro bubble problem.

To answer your light question i believe most tank manufacturers say 8inches or more above the tank! 1,000watters now thats another story. Can't wait to see more progress!

Well I finally received my Mag 18 that is running the overflow system, so I moved my little giant over to the cloosed loop system. When I did move it over. Now it’s a little loud on the vibratuion side. I will add foam under it today, or take it out and check out the impeller. It doesn't sound broke just a little to loud for me is all. I want peace a quite with a little water running in the background, that’s why I made the durso's., lol. I also changed my sump setup a bit, and added two 30 gal rubbermaids. I don’t know if you can tell through the pictures or not but I have a little mag 190 pushing water from the sump though the wall into the two 30 Gal ruberrmaids, then back into the wall to the refug. And back into the sump. Just adding more water volume and water changes will be easier this way. I also moved the skimmer to the back 30 gal rubbermaid right after the sump, before the bucket that filters the water to the ref. to elimminate the miocro bubble problem, and boy is the tank free of them now. Yes!!! Any how Pict's of the progress are posted below. I will be building and casing in the two 30 gal rubbermaids into a bench little sitting area to read a book or LOOK AT THE TANK. I will also be adding some trim around the front of the tank. Just around the front of the tank where the 1" thickness is showing. I will be adding about 75 nasserus snails this week to help the sand stay stirred up and stop diatoms, lol. Anyhow that’s all for now folks.

P.s- does anyone else have a mildly loud little giant series 3 pump? Thanks

One comment I wanted to add is that with all the clear tubing you will get some significant algae growth inside the tubing. I generally recommend either using black tubing or wrapping it with electrical tape. Some people even go the electrical tape route because they can color code their stuff.

Ok. That's another good idea. Thanks

Looking really goodââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ I especially like the view from the office or at least I think you said that was your office.
