very nice..what reactor did you opt for?

Calcium R: GEO 618 (may one day upgrade to an AquaC CR)
Kalk R: PM (took off line 2 days ago)
Ozone R: may be the Octo Extreme 160, if I feel it is suitable enough.

JR - lookin good, the swallowtail is a beautiful fish...I miss mine. The upgrade package looks sweet...I might have to be given Mike a call for the upgraded collection cup, I need another Vortech anyway.

Thanks. I have seen Mikes Reeflo 250 with all the upgrades and the performance is unreal. What a monster. I told him that the upgrades get twice the performance out of the reeflo skimmer and find it hard to beat. I have to sell some of my left over reef items and I will be getting another Vortech from him also.

hey JR, trying to plan how to set up my orca 200 under my 300 gallon, i was going to try and feed it from oe of the downs from my tank, but it has 1.5" downs, just trying to come up with a good way of doing it, not sure if a straight tee would be good, i know ill put a valve in the plumbing before the skimmer, just wondering if it will feed to much i guess, im probably going to have to replumb the entire underside of my tank. i also have a 75 gallon aquarium like you that i cnverted to my sump. my other problem is since the 75 is so tall, im going to have to build a little box for my orca to sit on under the stand so the output pipe gets over the 75 and into the sump, does yours produce alot of bubbles in the sump? and where do you think i should cut my riser pipe to, we already had talked about this on PETES 210 thread.

I just upgraded my pump to the GOLD orca version (with baldor motor), as the AO smith motor I had was having problems with overheating and noise. Reeflo swapped it out with a $90 upcharge. Anyway, I am disappointed at the watt draw -- the kill-a-watt says it's drawing 146W! I wish I would have checked to see what the old pump was drawing before I took everything apart (website says 120W), but, I was told by ReeFlo that this would be a more efficient pump versus the stock one.

Something is not right with your pump or your venturi is clogged and restricting the air. You should be no more than 120 watts on a reeflo 200 and 140watts on a Reeflo 250. The ao smith on the stock reeflo 200 was at 107-108 watts at most.

I wouldn't raise the skimmer but drill into the side up your sump for the skimmers output. The only problem with feeding the skimmer by the overflow is that you may end up with an inconsistent feed to the skimmer. But if you wanted to try it all you have to do is place a tee in the output of your overflow and a valve to control the feed to the skimmer. Make sure you have some sort of Durso or purge on your standpipe to limit the amount of air in the feed line.

I have a 250...so 146 is about right, then, I guess. My venturi's not clogged...I run hot ro/di down it once a week.

146 is a little high but not abnormal. It may be do to the impeller being or a little too tight. But unless you start hearing noise coming from the pump I would worry about it.

hey JR any idea what size pipe is on the orca, went to lowes tonight trying to find the size, 1.5 inch is just a bit to small, im talking bout the pipe for the return, and what size is it for the input?

JR,
How can I get my 200 to produce dark skimmate? It is always clear. My water lever is just at the base of the neck (the first black ring) I only have 6 fish total and I don't over feed at all so may be my bio load is light. Any suggestions?

Can you get any pics of it running? You also have to remember that the Reeflos create a head of foam more like a beckett. With lots of chunks which accumulate and usually doesn't make it to the drain creating a build up of sludge. But pics and a little more info on your setup will help me figure out why you can't get dark skimmate.

That is pretty much what it does. Thick sludge collects in the foam and really inside the neck of the skimmer, but it does not stink at all. I will post pictures later on today.

I would be blessed if my skimmate didn't stink. My wife hates when I clean my cup or empty my collection container. I know what you mean though. How long has the tank been running? When you first put the Reeflo 200 on how did it perform after break in? How are you feeding the skimmer? What type of fish do you have and what size? How many GPH are you feed it?

We'll get to the bottom of this, so that you can have the smelly skimmate that will make the wife kick you out of the house.:D
