Here's a before/after shot (1 month timeframe)
I think the SPS should be growing faster, maybe it's the bulbs?

2x250W Phoenix on mag ballasts
complementary actinics 2x40w
Alk 10
Ph 8,2-8,4
Ca 480
Mg 1400
Bulbs are about 8" from surface, tank is 20" deep

Well i can definitely see some growth. It looks like it encrusted the entire plug completely and the tips are growing out. For one month I think that's good actually. JMO. Looks good btw :) Nice piece!

Assuming that you keep your water and what not in check, would think that in a month or two should really see it take off --- after it finished encrusting.

I do realize there has been some growth and the corals itself are extremely healthy, but the fact remais that they have about 9h of full fludged MH sweetness blasted at them daily, calcification should be way higher in my opinion

You might want to try cutting back your MH photo-period to around 5-6 hours. Others (( myself included )) saw an increase of growth when the photo-period was cut back.

I'm no expert on SPS as I only have a few pieces, but mine usually take off after it enrusts itself. Looks like yours is getting to that point

Id be happy with that considering one month includes a couple weeks to adjust to your lighting, and water chemistry.

I agree with cutting the lights back some. i used to run my daylights for about 8-10 hours. Cut them back to 5 and I had a huge explosion in growth.

It looks like a A.Validia,& IME is a slow grower. It has encrusted well,& colored up nicely.Give it time,& let it grow.Looks great.

My valida is my second fastest growing acro in my tank. Of course, it varies from tank to tank. They just like to encrust a ton before making a lot of branch growth.

That's decent growth for a newly acquired piece. As it settles in your tank the color and growth will improve provided you keep good chemistry.
