COMAS Meeting June 10, 2006
-Minutes-preapred By Ray Soutiere
The June COMAS meeting was at the home of Pamela and Phillip. The eating began at 7:30pm; the meeting began at 8:30 pm. There were approximately 35+ members in attendance.
This months gathering had a bonus of a barbeque party before the meeting started. Everyone had a chance to see many of Pamela and Phillip’s tanks scattered throughout the house. One of the tanks was a 220 gallon filled with Rose Bubble Tipped Anemones, which was quite spectacular. All the guests had plenty to eat and to partake of some of the Devil’s libations provided for the more adventuresome among us.
President Paul Whitby recognized many new members to the club. Each member introduced themselves to the group for the benefit of the newer members as well as those of us with short term memory. June’s meeting was sponsored by Aquariums, out of Edmond. The topic for this month was Pamela and Phillip’s (Pamela) Tanks. Paul then turned the meeting over to Pamela and Phillip.
Pamela and Phillip have been working hard on some major remodeling in the room that the meeting was held in. Dominating the room was a 540 gallon in-wall tank.
The dimensions of the tank are 8’ x 3’ x 3’. Some of the hardware was ordered through Exotic Aquatics. A Pacific Coast Chiller rated at 1Hp and cost $1,100.00 (for those who need to know). Some of the flow inside the tank will be provided by two Tunze 6200 Streams with magnetic holders, an Ocean Motion will be added to one of the circulation/sump pumps for additional flow in the tank. The lighting will be made up of four 400W 20K Metal Halides. The stand for the 540 gallon tank was made using boxed metal framing which was welded together by Phillip. It was agreed by all that the stand could hold twice the weight of the current tank.
The remainder of the meeting was an informal question and answer period on the components and assembly of the tank.
