i had a glass floating hydrometer and it ready that my water was perfect so i never thought anythng was wrong. but that broke and now i have a plastic one with the bar inside and it says my water is above 1.030 and that is way to high. is this really bad that my water is that high and has any one else had this happen.

ps. all fish alive and all anenomes ,zoas, xenia and shrooms alive and doing well

We have had marine fish for many years and I have found IME that salinity can vary widely with no harm to the fish. That said, 1.030 is too high.

For less than 50.00 you can get a great refractometer from Foster and Smith:

If link does not work, google drsfostersmith.com and look up hydrometers/refractometers--the above one is on sale for 41.99. It will be well worth your money. Your fish will probably be okay til you get it and you can get an accurate reading.

who is to say the plastic one is correct also? is their anyone with a properly calibrated refractometer that could double check it for you?

According Anthonly calfo's coral prop. book the floating glass hydrometers are about the most accurate out there.
