I was wondering, with the temps going up, and tanks getting hot. Would freezing RO water effect the water. I was thinking about making RO ice cubes to put in the tanks. I don't really need any right now. but I've been reading about people tanks getting hot, and having to use bags of ice, but are told not to let the water seep in the tank, Can't we just freeze the RO, then throw RO cubes in the tank to cool it down, wouldn't it also act as a top off. If this could work, Then couldn't a bunch of us with power make up some cubes for those who don't.

I think ice gives off some gasses when it melts and has an adverse effect on the tanks. I am not 100% sure though. maybe someone who knows more can chime in.

before i got a fan for my tank, i would get some ziplock bags, freeze R/O water in them (just in case the bag broke)
then i just floated the bag of ice in the tank.
worked like a charm.
i also washed the bag off with r/o water before using it.

Well that is the reason for my question, If it i RO water, why worry about the water getting in the tank, reg ice cubes I understand, but RO should be safe. unless something happens to the RO water as it freezes. or melts.

When water freezes it traps gases. When it thaws out it releases gases that were trapped.

I'm not sure on the details though.

Seems like the only gas it could give off is air, and that's not a bad thing.

If you were thinking of dry ice, yes that is colder, but the gas it gives off is carbon dioxide, and that would NOT be good for the tank or its animal occupants. No dry ice in the tank, please.

No, I was just thinking plain RO/DI water, We all make it up for our tanks. Just before we add the salt. Take some, put it into ice trays, and freeze it. When tank starts getting a little warm, grab a few cubes and throw them in to the tank. Water cools, just like adding top off water, just in cube form.
