just an observation

I've been using IO for almost 13 years now without any problem. Mostly LPS and softies, this is my first attempt at sps corals and my tank is only a little over a year old. Anyways, being how I don't have a job right now and a bag of Coralife salt is $5 cheaper, I've been using that the last month or so. All I can say is WOW, what a difference in growth compared to the regular IO. It's almost as if some of my corals were sleeping all this time.

I guess. Maybe this Coralife salt is making up for other things as well. I've always stayed away from it BECAUSE it was so cheap, but things are sure looking pretty good now.

Coralife is actually a pretty darn good salt, even being so cheap. If you are really going to go into SPS, look into Reef Crystals.

Reef Crystals blow. I think their old formulation may have been good, but this new one causes diatom on the sand and brown film in the mixing bucket. I have tried mulitple buckets and always get diatoms after a change. I changed to a couple of other salts, and did not have that problems. Went back to RC again just to see, and diatoms again on the sand. No more RC for me, but that is just my experience. I liked Oceanic much better. I am now using AquVitos Salinity. If I remember correctly, in that AWT Salt Test, Coralife salt came out looking pretty good in its parameters, if not even better than all the rest tested.

I aqree with one reef on this. I have to clean my mix tank with vinegar after mixing reef crystals. I love and miss using coralife. It seems to mix faster as well.

Too bad I still have almost 200 gallons worth of RC someone gave me.



EDIT: I also test for everything after mixing and add calc/alk/mag to get iot to my current tank lvls.

+1 for Coralife. I get it for $34.99 locally. Has high Cal content. I've cut back of dosing two part big time.
