Yes I did borrow a PAR meter and tested it a few years back. It was something like 400 right under the surface down to around 200-250 at the sand bed. The tank is only 20" tall so getting PAR into the tank has never been an issue.
Oops! I guess it has been a while hasn't it.. To make two long stories short.. the tank went through some major trials last year. First off, my kitchen flooded and I had to gut it and redo it which took massive amounts of time and funds away from the tank. Translation: Tank was a bit neglected. Second, after running wonderfully for 6 years my GHL Profilux controller decided to give up the ghost. I ran everything off of that thing, including my temperature.. sadly, when the controller crashed so did the temperature. Tank wasn't happy At any rate, things have been on the mend and the tank as a whole is back in its groove.
My red goniopora, which was a really deep red completely lost ALL of its colour when the temperature in the tank crashed last December. This thing was ghost white and I was sure it was toast. It also retracted ALL of its feeding arms/mouths and kinda looked like a favia/brain coral. Fortunately, this thing is NUKE PROOF. Slowly but surely, it started to get its colour back and slowly started to extend its arms/mouths. I got pink, then darker pink, then orangy-red-pink. It's still not quite the deep red that it once was but it's getting there.
