I ran into this problem when trying to pair a maroon/ocellaris hybrid and a plain maroon. I divided the tank in two parts with eggcrate for a couple weeks. They paired up immediately after I removed the eggcrate.
This is what I did to pair mine up. I placed a clear acrylic sheet diagonally across a pet container and placed one on each side. Daily I would remove the sheet two to three times and allow the larger one to dominate the smaller one. I would monitor the beat down and seperate them again before it got bad. Over the coarse of a week, the smaller one shook and became submissive until the point where the larger one no longer beat the smaller one. Or you could buy the pair with rbta I am selling. And mine did host in a torch before they got the rbta so yours should too.
