just bought my first skimmer

I think there is a big thread on them with tips, tricks, mods etc. that you can do with them to make them even better than stock.

just has needlewheel pumps instead of a maxijet

I have a single octopus hob and a bakpak2 the octupus is 20Xbetter. Its a great Hang on skimmer and I have had no trouble with it. Pulls great skimate.

i hope the 2 pumps wont add too much heat, but i figured more skimming is better

skimmer came yesterday and water tested today unfortunately there have been some problems, first the nylon screw that holds the collection cup broke. the L shaped bracket has a small chip, which are minors problems. The pumps are a resun king 225F needlewheel. both fired up in warm water and vinegar solutions although not much vinegar. one pump ran for 3 minutes and stopped. i unplugged it shook it a little then restarted and hasnt stopped. the ohter pump for the first hour stopped 4 times and i restarted it. another couple times i would check on it would be stopped then 5 minutes later check again and is going. ALso upon a closer look it is leaking where the pump pipe goes into the skimmer the ring doesnt look as compressed as the right side dont know if i should tighten it or not risk breaking somethin. any experience with these skimmers

well i fixed the leak with a simple o ring and pumps are working good except way to many micro bubbles how can i reduce them? i bought about 20 lbs live rock from clayton and going to add 2 it in the next week. any advice?
