Hey all I just ordered a Etra Large SPS Colony from a friend that works at a LFS. I was able to score it for 50.00 cost....however the colony came in and I immediatly went to pick it up and acclimated it for my tank. I noticed that the pink color is more dominated by a white tint...the tips are bleached or the base really it's just kinda whitish pink all over...so I don't know if it's bleaching or what. The colony really got all slimed up when I acclmated it and put it in the tank..it was spewing stuff most of the night. Today however the lights are on and he is slime free.....what do you think??

Stress.......should work out fine. It might darken and then lighten again. Most depends on water quality. HTH

Unfortunatly I dont have a way to get the pic at this time....It is a cluster coral much like that described on page 144 of the Marine Inverts Pocket Guide by Ronald Shimek. Best I can do for a pick. What should I try for food. I just tried some Kent Phytoplanton....My water Q is up to standard reef requirements....

Everything you describe sounds pretty normal to me. White tips are not a sign of anything bad unless you see the tissue receading. Normally white tips are a sign that the coral is growing. If you ahve white at the base that is going up the main "trunk" then you have something to worry about.

If it looks a little bleached - I'd be sure to slowly acclimate it to your lighting.

While that mean it'll brown a little - nothing time + care can't fix ... and IMO a slightly brownish coral in a few weeks is better than a pure white one ;)

I wouldn't worry about feeding or anything else right now except good water quality. SPS corals take different amounts of time to acclimate. I have had some acros take upwards of 6 mos before they settle down in their new environment...this is especially true with wild colonies. If the coral starts loosing tissue...then you have a problem.

After careful inspection after lights out on it's second night in the tank I can see all the fuzzy polyp extention coming out all over the place. However the coral looks yellow and white with the flashlight....

Well after 5 days the colony is doing ok, polyp extention during night time hours every night, color is the same...no signs of rtn but the pinkish brown color has shifted to a yellowish tan/brown

I had the same problem when I bought this coral. Placed it high up and left it alone. It is starting to color up along the base and I se PE and hight and day. Give it time and it should come around.

Had this for like 3 weeks and paid $18 at a LFS
