Just got a new Derasa

Had it for a week and so far it looks pretty good. I'm now moving it from my frag tank to my display and I'm wondering about placement. The tank is a 180, 24 high, with 250 watt halides. My plan is to place it in an open area of sand bed, but I'm unsure about whether or not to put it on a piece of LR or just place it in the sand. The sand bed is shallow, about 1 inch so any rock I place under it is going to protrude through the sand and just doesnt look right unless I come up with a real flat one. Is there any reason not to just place it in the sand?

Some ppics of it in the frag tank.

My derasa has been on a shallow bed of sand in my 180 for well over a year and it is growing very fast.. I also have 250 MH along with 110w VHO.. You'll be fine..

They do better when placed in the sand bed *at least to me they do* If you have something like a flat piece of plastic, you can place it below the sand and rest your clam on top of him. Be sure to have ample space for him, and he grows rapidly.

Mine is about 5 or 6 years old and is on the sand at the bottom of my 180 under 400 watt MH.

the sand bed will be a perfect place for that clam with those lights. there is no need to find a rock to place under him, derasa's grow large enough that they don't need to attach to a rock, there own weight keeps them in place.
