Just got my new Peppermint Hog Fish

Just picked up my new Peppermint Hog fish today from my local source. i know you all are gonna laugh at this story but here goes. I was rearranging my live rock about a month ago when i dropped one of the pieces of live rock. that night i noticed my peppermint hog fish was not out nor the next day, highly unusual. well i had a brilliant idea to look up under the rock i dropped and low and behold i had crushed my favorite fish. Moral of the story, the most expensive fish always die.

I have my rhomboid pair coming tuesday.

here are the pics

looks nice! are you getting the rhomboids locally or online? Most LFS can't get rhomboids and if they do, it isn't a definite time period. lol

how big is the hog?

he's a small 2.75". I have a wholesaler that i go through here locally. i sell fish and corals for him since he can't to individual customers. I am getting the pair for $400. I paid $120 for the peppermint and i also purchased a blue spotted jawfish from him as well yesterday for $85. I can't get a good picture of him but he is about 3.5-4" long, good size.

Nice Fish

Nice Fish

I have noticed the same thing over the years, only the expensive stuff seems to meet with tragic circumstances. The $100 dollar fish can find a 1/2 inch gap in the top and jump out, the $10 fish will sit in a cup overnight and not experience a problem.

Anyways, I also have a Peppermint Hog in my 125Gallon tank, very active, good citizen with the corals and other fish, lots of color. I hear they can get a little mean when they get fully grown, I have seen no instances of it yet, however mine is only about 2inches right now...

no that is not the same fish. two totally different fish. i have seen liveaquria post a cigar wrasse that looks very similar to this one.

i used to have the same peppermint hog as you but he jumped on top of my overflow and i found him looking like beef jerky pretty sad.

2 Rhomboids? Almost time to start dropping rolls of pennies into the tank on accident! Great looking hog btw, can't wait to see the pix of your Rhomboids
