Hello all,

I have been lurking here for a while and finally decided to join. Got the email from makosharkII and after checking it out and visiting the website decided to join. I even got the wife somewhat interested so I got the family membership, thought the wife and kids might like to tag along once in a while. So now about that secret handshake........

Welcome aboard! Try to make it to the frag swap on sept 22 at the agricenter. You'll meet a lot of people and see a lot of cool things! Look forward to having you guys in the club! :)

The secret handshake is you put your club fee in your right hand and shake hands with Marty. After that you are an offical member. :hammer:

Some people apparently are in witness protection programs and cannot use their real names here. Should we just call you sucker fish, turtleman or do you have a preferred name?

Welcome...

Kerry

Thanks for all the warm welcomes, first things first I guess, my real name is jeremy but everyone calls me by my last name, Clayton. I guess after 13 years in the military it's the only thing I seem to answer to.
I got into reefing about 12 years ago when a neighbor of mine was moving and decided to donate a 20 something gallon nano tank to my wife as she was the fish lady ( freshwater). Along with it was a single clown fish, an interesting little thing that I later would find out was a Kenya tree coral( never gonna put another one of those in my tank), a few polyps of zoas and some tonga branch rock ( wish I would have kept that). I also received a scratched up 75 gallon two chamber tank thing and a aqua c remora skimmer, all this was free but would eventually lead to thousands being spent upgrading this, changing that, and replacing other things...if I would have only known how addicting this hobby is......

P.S.--- due to the recent move I won't be able to bring anything to the frag swap to trade except for cash...:)

Well, while it is called a frag "swap", it is 99.9% swaps for cash, so you will fit right in. The name is misleading. I saw a couple last year walk up to a vendor (with a few bags of corals) to do some "swaping" and they found out it was really a sale or expo of sorts. Then again, some sell "used" equipment so it is like a yard sale too. So it has a little bit of everything from aquarium supplies, corals, fish to expert speakers..........if you have never been to one it is like a kid walking into a fair for the first time....:bounce1:

Yeah been to a few when I was in San Diego, pretty much the same way. The club pushed for trading frags so there was a lot of trading going on but also a lot of buying.

Great. Trading can be challenging to find someone that has something you want and visa versa, so cash trades are most predominate here.

The club has either old dawgs that have specific needs (been there done that on most corals) or new comers that dont' have anything to trade (or are looking to trade their kenya trees :) ) since they are new to the hobby. So trading doesn't seem to happen very often. If anything, I see more members just giving corals to each other, or I guess it could be seen as a long term trade, as they give frags back and forth over time.....

I posted your name on a thread (RC name decoder) I have going so I (and anyone else nterested) can have a list of real names. You can puruse the names of others to see their names and some information on their tanks. Please feel free to post and note any information on what have, or what you are interested in as several members sell their frags from time to time. Kerry
