Just moved downtown, tank off by 1/8"

Hey Everyone,

Just moved to downtown Savannah (from outside Savannah area), my Innovative marine 40 gallon is about 1/8" maybe less off. The floors are wood, and this is the historic district (so really old flooring basically). I have put some pieces of cardboard underneath the feet to try and level it, but do not want to keep at it if the distance off is not that great. Does anyone think that 1/8" will impact the stability of the tank? I think I can lift it and get some more "shims" underneath it if need be.

Thoughts?

Its not level by 1/8" or there is a gap of 1/8" from bottom of tank to stand on one side?

If its just not level then just slide some shims under the stand at the floor and call it a day..
But usually being not level by only 1/8" isn't really a problem but shimming should be easy.. Don't use cardboard though as its gonna settle/squish.. Wood shims.. or even quarters/pennies/nickels :)

Thanks Mcgyvr, So when I place my level across, the middle bubble is slightly to one side, to get it even I raise it up on one side and measure that distance. That distance was 1/8" off, does that make sense? Maybe I am worrying about nothing. Its on for 4 rubber legs, I will have to see about gettin skinny shims.

I'm not familiar with that tank so I can't comment if it will effect the overflow system (if there is one,etc..) but I wouldn't be worried about 1/8" off level at all..
Shim if it you want but you probably won't even notice it..
Its not going to cause any "damage" or anything..

OK that's reassuring. It's just because the floors are so old I was concerned. I guess I was looking for at what point should I be concerned. Thanks bud.

Its really only gaps between tank and stand causing unequal pressure distribution
Or when its so unlevel and you have a coast to coast overflow or similar that its only pulling water from the lower side..
Thats when it can be an issue..

Or if its just visually "annoying" to you.. But with a rimless tank (I think yours is) you probably won't even notice it being off that little..

Cool, sounds like good news to me. Thank you! It's not coast to coast by any means I just get a little paranoid is all.

If you do shim use the composite ones, no warping due to the inevitable moisture that will make its way down

I think left to right it looks ok now, but what does everyone think of the left/right pics from front to back. Is that too far off?

Perhaps I'm a bit OCD, but IMO if you are going to shim it (as you should) you should keep at it until it's right.

I get your point Bill, trying to do my best. My floors are crazy, house was probably as old as agreeive. I will go buy some more shims and keep going at it. looks like front to back is all I really have to worry about now.
