I am on day 17 and the rock and sand is brown and very fuzzy. This is still normal? Right?

Yes its normal, if ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are 0 by this weekend stick a couple of snails in there.

or Brown and fuzzy like the inside of your mouth feels after a long night partying?

A really good close up Photo would help us to analyze and come to a consensus on this issue.

In the meantime "vacum up the brown stuff" remove and do a water change!! :rollface: :rollface:

If youre running the tank lights you might want to turn those off while its cycling
