Just one clown fish

I know it is a bad idea to keep more than two clown fish, but is it ok to keep just one? I want the fish to thrive not just survive, so I would like to know what is best for the fish.

Keeping one alone is just fine.

one clown is fine, but my clowns appetite is better with company, maybe its the competition or just the company, and it ventures out more.

Thanks everyone. The reason I am considering only one is because the tank I am setting up is only 40 gallons. I want a variety of fish in my tank and I think two clowns would quickly fill the tank.

I have just one onyx perc in my tank and he/she is fat and happy....eats whatever I put in the tank

My one clown has been by herself for over 6 years now. She's quite happy.
