Well with the increasing number of reef people wanting tanks drilled, I just bit the bullet and bought 3 new bits for drilling tanks.
I normally drill free hand with a dremel but thought these would be much faster and easier.

They are coming from HK so they should be here next week...
:)

I know the club is buying some too but I wanted a set of my own.
I got bits for a

1" BH = 1 3/4 Bit
1 1/2" BH = 2.5" Bit
2" BH = 3" Bit

I used http://www.championlighting.com/home.php?cat=436 to figure out what size holes I needed for what size bulkheads.

With the bits and shipping it was all under $50.00!!!

Drlling question for you. I want to put 5 1" BH in the back of my 120 AGA for a closed loop. Will this stress the glass? They will be one at each back upper corner, two in between the over flows and one down in the middle for supply. Do you think this could work.

Thanks,

Hell yes it will stress the glass. Whether enough to crack it long term, anybody's guess. IMHO it's ill advised to swiss cheese the back of your tank like that.

I still need my nano drilled Funman. I have your number and I'll be calling soon. Been real busy with work and family stuff.

cough*funman has 4 holes in teh back of a 30gallon*cough .. now that i think if it.. why did i put 4 ... crazyyy ... im just pullin ur leg steve :p , hole saws would deffinitely make it easier, did u ever take the bulk heads out to inspect my drilling ability w/ a dremel, that glass was THICKK

I think you might be ok if you skip the one in the middle.
Can you drill the bottom for the overflows?
On my 30G there's 4 holes in the back but they are at all 4 corners. and it's such a small tank with such thick glass (Oceanic)

hahah that is so freaking funny we posted at the same time!!
Talk about random coincidence!!

Nope never drained the tank to pull a bulkhead out. That baby's had water in it since the day I bought it off ya.
:)

I wish i knew all this stuff a year and a half ago when i set my 180 gallon up.

I would have defiently had the back drilled to do a closed loop and also put in over flows and drilled the bottom.

maybe one day i will just buy a used 180 glass tank and do this

hehheh
Yep.. I think we ALL would have done something different looking back now..

That's we we all upgrade and do it that much better the next round
:)

They are in at last

hoh actually I forgot to mention I bought two more off him that night. And had them combine all the shipping from HK.
:)

Steve, are you taking "Orders" on drilling tanks?,
If so, I need 2 holes drilled on my 30 Gal. tank.
PM me with cost/timing info.
