Just ordered a Venustus...

Actually, the blue harbor website has two very tiny specimens list right now. Barely an inch long if IIRC. No idea on pricing for them though.

Those are captive bred so price is a bit more than DD. listed 37800 Yen; roughly 373 dollars plus shipping...

well, if you go on BH's website, one of the two does look like a fish paka posted. But they might just all look the same.

So the two listed are from Karen's work?

They were not raised by me. I think it's cool if they are captive bred and someone else is also working with them. I'd love to know who and compare notes.

I've started another batch which is at day 1 today so still have a ways to go.

It'd be really cool if someone else is indeed working with them. As far as I know, you are the only one breeding venusta at this time. Keep up the awesome work, Karen!

Pretty sure all the others are wild caught...have not hard a peep about anybody else breeding....

Blondie is a rock star!!

Yes, its my mistake, somehow in my head I see word "baby" in description and thought it was tank bred for some reason.

Ugh...tempting...I just don't have the time I would like to try to train these guys to eat at the moment. Hopefully, NYA or DD will get a few more in when things slows down.

Just to stoke the Venustus fever. This is my trio.

The one in the background is the dominant one. Foreground venustus, is the only one of the trio which still has the blue at its head area.

The top fish is the 3rd venustus of the trio. I noticed its yellow coloration is more orange compared to the other two.

Mr Dominant asserting himself again.

Funnily the blue headed Venustus which bears most of the brunt of dominance chasing is the most active and eats quite well compared to the other two.

So what u guys waiting for? Get your venustus!

Haha....jealous of your trio!

hello everyone, I bought one of the purple masked angels from DD the other evening & arrived in very good condition this afternoon!!! it was listed as 3 1/2" & seems very healthy....nice & fat, great color! hiding as of this evening. hopefully it will come out from its hiding place soon! not so lucky with the gold assessor that I ordered(calf.) with the angel, D.O.A. real glad it wasn't the angel. I will say DD packed the order very well using a very big bag with alot of water.the bag was packed side ways too which is good because I believe alot of D.O.A.s I have received in the past was because the fish got caught in the corner of bag. anyway, just wanted to brag a little I guess....really pumped!!!!!

Happy to hear it arrived in Good health. Thanks for posting on here, I'll be curious to see how it fares.

Pics? I saw them on DD but $200 is way out if my budget, bet they were gorgeous despite that. I wouldn't pay more than $70 for venustus, but everyone seems to be selling them for much more :(

before I went to bed last night, she was coming out some... moving ever so slowly. I hope it's nothing to worry about, but the head seem to move forward (body would be at an angle, tail higher than the head) when it would stop. I hope no chemicals were used in the collection process? $200 for a fish listed as difficult, that is eating "very well" is in my opinion.... worth every penny. healthy & eating well gives me a good start. but I have often thought if all DD fish listed as eating, are they all actually eating? they say that but some I've received would not! I have bought tons of fish from them & all are in the very best condition possible! no white spots ever! anyway, I will post a photo when I get a good shot.

There are times when a fish will stop eating after being shipped, so eating at the retailer doesn't always mean it will eat once it arrives unfortunately. I have, however, not had an issue with fish from DD not eating. In fact, the closely related multibar angels I have gotten from Kevin have arrived and tried pellets the first day when they only ate mysis and brine for him.

Fish of the Paracentropyge subgenus are shy at first, so the hiding behavior you are seeing is to be expected. Give it a week or two after it eats for you and it will beg for food, that's how my multibars were by the end of the first week in my care.

Venustus are known to orient themselves at weird angles as well, even upside down. The behavior you mentioned is probably normal.

That's awesome! Good luck with it. I can't really offer any advice on the swimming motion as I only had my paracentropyge for a couple of days.

Also, please brag away...with pictures! :D

thanks, happy to hear the tilting is probably normal! I'm trying something with this fish that seemed to work with my potter's. I secured a pair(potter's) about 3 weeks ago from DD. fish arrived with one DOA....curled up like the letter C.....thinking it was probably caught in the corner of bag. the other looked excellent! my tank is 300 gl. with central overflow. I took a sheet of egg crate and divided the tank at the overflow...cutting the egg crate in a U shaped pattern, then sliding the material between overflow & glass on both sides. getting all the fish to one side is the real fun part, LOL. worked well. there is going to be a challenge once this fish(venustus) ajust to my tanks environment & eats well. I have a regal(purchased may 2012, about 4 1/2"), potter's(3 "), & flame(3") angel. no problem with regal. potter's & flame fought like crazy for 3 or 4 days....they hardly notice each other now! with my purple mask I'm hoping with its size(listed as 3 1/2") (body is much, much bigger than flame & potter's) that it want get picked on? I know people say to have only one pygmy angel per tank but I have 3 tangs in there that get along well....yellow, hippo, & chevron. hoping that once the pecking order is established (angels) they will get along? anyway, last night at feeding time she did come out a little while the pumps were off. hoping to get a photo this weekend?
