Just realized I may be overstocked

Yeah but... if there wasn't enough food to go around wouldn't they be dying or eating each other?

some will die. most will not receive enough nutrition since there is so much compitition for food. the few that do ok will kill others for their shells. the response will be, "well there was 160 so you have to figure some won't make it." the truth is it was too many to begin with.

1 or less per 10 gallons is a better rule of thumb. i would go w/ 18 hermits and 18 snails, 36 in all. 40 to round it is that's easier for purchasing, but this guy is about 300% too stocked.

I have about 10 Astraeas and 20 ceriths in my 135, and I have detritus all over the rocks and brown SPS. I only have 3 fish, and feed once or twice a week. So the little bit of nutrients I have isn't being taken care of by my snails. My SPS used to be colorful before I accidentally added a couple hermits, who were determined to kill a bunch of my snails. I have an order of 50 of each coming in soon. Psyire is definitely not over stocked with inverts.

I recommend purchasing and reading Marine Invertabrets by Ron Shimek to all who agree he is not overstocked w/ inverts.

I agree, I have a 125 and have 100 snails and 50 Hermits, I love to feed my fish so all the left over is being taken care of and I have no worries.
