Just upgraded my Mag 9 to an SP4

I was able to eliminate an mj1200 that was connected to my bio pellet reactor too, the SP4 is pushing that as well and I still have double the flow on the top rack. My apex says it's only pulling around 1 amp!

Very happy with this pump, highly recommend. The next bigger system I am working on is going to have an SP6

I have the same pump and as quiet as any DC model. The only thing I didn't like was the included hose barb fitting

Just upgraded my Mag 9 to an SP4

Those fittings reduce flow by at least 30% not to mention soft plumbing knocks a couple more off.

Hard plumb with PVC u will be amazed. The reason I know is I left the fitting on the intake when I took it off my drains couldn't keep up with the flow if my reactor valve was closed

Do you think the SP2 will provide enough flow for a 110? About 4' of soft plumbing through a UV as well. What's the overall flow rate one should be looking for anyways? 3,4,5X overall system size?

So if I'm understanding you correctly I should be looking to achieve 10x turnover rate, but because of my drainage I'm limited?

I like to target 3-5x turnover through the sump, this gives the filtration to be more effective and supplement the flow with powerheads/ closed loop

Tanging Out- depending on how much feet of head you are working with I think the SP2 would be a good choice

Sorry didn't mean to sound negative, yes that would work for your set up. 10x including flow like power heads etc. I don't use power heads in my systems and so I target 10 from the sump with a big skimmer. If you can plumb hard PVC (even part of the way) it will improve your flow and be less of a PIA and susceptible to leaks

I had a mag 9 on my 100 and it did fine, the sp2 is around the same volume and is quieter, cooler and more efficient

I didn't take it that way at all. I'm still fairly new to all this and was just trying to clarify. I do appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions though and thanks to everyone else too.

Sweet, I'm thinking about the SP4 as well on my 120 with 90 sump. It's either this or the DC9000, if this is quiet I think I'd rather have the Fluval reliability over Jebao. If you have the means and time it would be awesome to see a video with the pump off and on for sound levels!

Will do, been reading a lot of threads recently about dead Jebao pumps, they all seemed to die at the same time :-) I'll try post a video tonight
