Just wondering

Hi all, Does anyone ever just go to a local park or beach, Like Sand Key or Howard Park and scoop up a few buckets of live sand to use? Any good reason not to? Many years ago I kept all kinds of things that washed up on shore. My little octopus was really cool, But the Fiddler crabs ate him! Thought it'd be the other way around.

I was thinking more like keeping it live with all the local snails, coquinas(sp) maybe even a sand dollar. For CUC duty and as food for fish that may enjoy eating them.

There are too many pollutants in the sand. You would need to go pretty far out and down to get clean sand. I had this same question when I was starting my tank.
