Juvenile Crosshatch Trigger

Hi

Anyone have experience with juvenile Crosshatch? How big were they when you got them? I heard they have a slow growth rate? Some said they they have seen 4"-5" male Crosshatch? Some said there is no small male Crosshatch less then 6"? I just think no one is very clear with this fish.

I haven't seen any that were true juveniles. I've seen them in the 4" range, but I've never seen them in the 3/4" range where you sometimes see nigers and picassos.

i have had a few juvies in the 2-3" range. Very difficult to tell the difference between a small bluethroat and crosshatch. I have also seen a few 4" males which are VERY rare to come by.

any size they do fine, feed a lot

I have a 4" female in my main display and a 5 1/2" male and a 6" male hybred (crosshatch bluethroat) in my acclimation tank

I have a juvenile crosshatch trigger. I was wondering if you can differentiate between the male and females at this size/age. It is about 3.5-4inches in size. It's tail fin has yellow edging. Is this definetly a female, or will the male colors come in time? Any opinions are welcome.

Already eating after a day in the tank.

Richieboy, I was offered a small 5" like yours... also but I didn't take it. I think it is most likely a female.

Would it be okay for me to add a larger (6-8inch) male in with this female 4.5incher already in the tank??? Will there be any aggression between the two?

i now have pair of crosshacth triggers in my main display. i have a lot of experience with these fish. they are extremely hardy. the smallest male i have ever seen has been about 4.5 " which i actually witnessed turning from female to male. this is the reason you dont see small males. Males have the red tail and yellow fins as oppose to females which have somewhat reverse coloration and are a bid more tannish/brown color. it should be fine to add a male into the tank with a female.

I've had my female for close to 2 years now. She was about 5 inches when I bought her and she hasn't grown quite an inch since. Great fish full of personality and a slow grower.

Im sure crosshatch triggers are dimorphic not hermaphrodites they are diffrent fom birth and cannot change orentation. The reason that There not alot of small male crosshatches seen from what Ive heard is that they are mostly sent to japan (higher prices) and when diving they are very hard to sex ,also they look alot like blue throat triggers when small

I got my female about 6 years ago. She was probably 4 inches when I got her. She has never grown very much or gotten very colorful. We always assumed it was because she was so small when we got her. She has lost two males.
