Juvenile Goldflake

I have a problem. My Goldflake has stopped eating. I treated with Prazi Pro and he has been in Copper for 11 days. The last couple of days he just decided to stop eating. The first few weeks he ate everything I put in the tank, NLS pellets as well. I was feeding 4 times a day. He still is swimming around fine, he even swims to the top when I open the hood to feed, he looks like he is going to eat then just swims past it. His is in the tank with a Flagfin, there is no aggression and the Copper level is at .5 using Cupramine. Water parameters are fine, been doing multiple water changes a week. He is in a 30 gallon established QT. Any help, I am starting to get nervous?

he may be getting sick from the copper. If it were me I would get the copper out ASAP. Angels do not react well to copper and it can really mess with them. If you have ich I would treat with hyposalinity soley. Goldflakes are very sensative and need to have pretty much perfect water.

IHMO I Would get some Cuprisorb and some active carbine and get the copper out.

Agree. You don't want to lose a G/F

I lost my goldflake when he was in QT because I medicaded him and the parasites died too fast in his stomach. He looked like a bloated puffer in the morning. Sucked too because he was eating like a champ.

The copper sensitivity issue is not something I have seen with Cupramine with any angels. I think it does pertain to all other copper meds.

Sorry to hear that, but it begs the question, what else could you have done to ensure that you were not going to add parasites into your DT. I have this dilemma currently with two pairs of butterflies. They are sensitive to both the Prazi and Cupramine. I don't want to kill them with medication, but at the same time my DT is parasite free and I don't want to add them without a proper QT. It is a catch 22. :mad2:

i would freshwater dip the G/F for a little while. they are a very tough fish. I just got in a tiny juvi and i freshwater dipped him for 15 minutes along with 2 other larger goldflakes, some emperors and flame angels)

copper, unless over dosed, very rarely kills angels, but it sounds like you may have overdosed slightly. Do a water change and go from there.

I know what you are saying Jason. My display is parasite free, I also have an Achilles so I don't want to take any chances.

I already did a 50% water change and added carbon, I will retest the copper in the morning. I just don't know what to do. I don't see any parasites, I know that doesn't mean the fish is parasite free, but I don't want to take anymore chances with copper and I don't want to infect my DT. Does anyone think being in copper for 12 days is enough time? Thanks all for the advice and concern, it is appreciate!

I would say if he was in copper for 12 days assuming it was a high enough dosage it killed all the parasites that may have been on it. I would keep the fish in QT for another couple of weeks just to make sure.
