Oops! Excuse me, I meant to type LPS. Hehe, freudian slip. I guess deep down I still dream of that SPS setup...

I don't have any SPS in my nano, just a mix of LPS & softies. Sorry for the typo.

K9 - Quick question I was thinking about getting some pulsing xenia's (the shorter white ones) I just wanted to ask someone if I should knowing that I do not have Halide lighting... would you think I would be okay?
By the way check out the Reefkeeping article about Damsel Fish you'll see I made it : ) with my domino damsel named Mike Vick :)

Xenia's are just fine under power compacts, VHOs, or T5s. Halides are not needed to keep them happy. Congrats on the article.

Tonight I sold my Galaxy coral, which has put me one step closer to making my tank look like this:

From the August 2004 issue of Reefkeeping Magazine

That's right, I'm going to have ONLY Ricordea and Zoanthids in my tank. Well, those and my monster Toadstool which I love too much to get rid of. I'm going Wednesday to buy some new Rics and/or Zoos, so I'll post pictures when I get something new. Stay tuned! :D

hehe, good riddance! Can't wait to see what you score.
Me neither! :D My LFS has some really nice orange Rics that I'd like to get. I'm also on the lookout for some blue ones too though. Eh, we'll see what I can dig up. :)

Better dip/quaranteen your Zos then :P Don't wanna get a nudi problem from the last Zos you get.
Definitely not! I thoroughly check everything while it's acclimating before it goes into the tank. I also intend to dip any new stuff too.

If you wanted color... just add food coloring :)
Well, not sure how that would work out. ;)

Thank you!

how much you get for your sps?
Huh, nothing at all since all of the frags died but one. I'm not even sure if that one will make it either. Oh well, lesson learned.

This thread almost went to the third page. Cant have that happen!

So where are those new corals!
Ha, thanks for keeping it alive. Actually, I wasn't able to make it to the LFS this week because of an immense amount of homework I had to do for my night classes. I'm headed out of town to Orlando this weekend, so new corals and pictures will have to wait 'til next week. Everything is going very well with the tank though and my current corals are growing/multiplying nicely. Have a good weekend everyone!

Just got done reading all 11 pages, awesome tank Ted! I'm in the planning stagtes of setting up a 20L. I have a question about drilling/overflow. I used to have a 55g that had an overflow box and utube, hated that thing. So looking at your pics of the 2 bulkheads and pvc elbows inside the tank, is it my understanding that the elbows are bent up and the water stays at that consistant level, and the 2 elbows just suck the water down? Hope I don't sound stupid, but with my old one you had to start a siphon, is that required with your setup? And what happens if the power goes out? anything? Thanks for any help

Thanks so much for the compliments! Yes, your assumptions are correct. the PVC elbows just bend upwards and the water just drains out of the tank like it would out of your kitchen sink. There are no siphons at work, just gravity. :D

In the event of a power outage, the water will drain out until it stops at the PVC elbows. My 10g fuge is only holding about 5 or 6 gallons of water anyways. Also, my Maxi-Jet 1200 return pump will also obviously stop. When power returns, the MJ starts up again, and fills the tank back up so that water can gravity-feed down to the fuge again as usual. One of the 3/4" bulkheads can drain all of the water by itself (I've tested it to be sure), so in case a snail or something would ever clog one drain, there won't be a flood. In the future though, I would like to install a float switch on the MJ1200, so that in the extremely rare case that BOTH drains were to clog, the fuge would empty out of enough water to trigger the float switch and kill power to the return pump. Thanks again for reading and the kind words. Feel free to ask any more questions you like.

Cool, that sounds alot safer than my old setup. I think I will do this with my tank when I set it up. Here is another question that I will ask, but I know your not into SPS. How would I accomplish getting enough flow to have succesful SPS?

For enough flow to have SPS in a 20L tank, I'd have at least a couple MJ900s, 1200s, or Seio 820s. The Seios have more GPH, but the flow is more widespread instead of the jet stream of the MJs. Of course, you could always set up a closed-loop as well.
