Kalk Buildup

OK so the end of the tubing that I dose kalk with has a white deposit about the size of a silver dollar around it. Is this normal or is this some indication of something I'm doing wrong?

I currently have a 41 gallon system (29 gallon tank, 7 gallon sump, and 5 gallon RDSB). I top off with kalk using a perisaltic pump hooked to an auto top off and I'm adding about 9 gallons a week of kalk (2 Tbs. per gallon per directions).

PH 8.2 to 8.3
Calcium 400 PPM
MG 1300
Nitrates 0
Ammonia - Hard to tell reading the colors but somewhere between 0 and .07
Alk - higher end of the normal range (that is what my red sea test kit says)

Thanks,
Kyle

is the end of the tubing touching anything at all?

yeah it's right next to the side of the tank.

It is normal. However, you should clean this periodically so that the tube doesn't get plugged.

cool thanks I'll keep that in mind.

try to keep it away from anything...and dont submerge it in water. I used to have that problem but i secured it to hang over my sump out of the waters surface.

i get it also and my tube does not contact the water. Air will also cause calcification, which is why kalkwasser forms a hard skin on the area exposed to air - it's the same process.

go mountaineers!

I get it also. I will run vinegar thru my perstaltic pump about every 2 or 3 months to dissolve any buildup.
